Widely regarded as one of, if not, the best TV show ever to grace our screens, The Sopranos simply has to be on your watch list. The American crime series follows Tony Soprano, head of the Mafia and the Soprano Family, as he struggles to deal with the difficulties as the top dog of a mafia organisation and the effect it has on his family life.

James Gandolfini stars as Tony Soprano, with Edie Falco playing his long-suffering wife, Carmelo Soprano, with Lorraine Bracco, Michael Imperioli, Vincent Pastore and Jamie-Lynn Sigler also part of the excellent cast. Both Falco and Gandolfini swept up numerous awards for their work on the show, with the show itself winning an incredible 106 awards.

Despite the show originally airing on HBO almost 20 years ago, way back in 1991, The Sopranos legacy has continued to live on with many critics claiming the show changed the TV landscape forever.

Starring: James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Lorraine Bracco, Dominic Chianese, Tony Sirico, Michael Imperioli.

The Sopranos is available to watch on NOW TV until 8 May 2020.

2. Game Of Thrones

Another huge HBO show that became a global success and that had us choosing other houses and families over our own is Game Of Thrones. Whether it’s war, lies, deceit or maybe even incest that you’re after, it’s safe to say that the fantasy-drama certainly delivers – with The Stark’s, Targaryen’s, Lannister’s et al all at war and vying to claim the Iron Throne.

Based on the novels by George R.R. Martin, the show originally aired back in 2011 and became a monumental success, making stars out of the likes of Emelia Clarke, Kit Harrington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Richard Madden, who all dominated the TV space for the entirety of it’s run, before finishing the series last year.

Despite plenty of negative reactions to the final series of the show, Game Of Thrones remains one of the biggest and most popular shows not just of the last decade, but of all time.

Starring: Emelia Clarke, Kit Harrington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Richard Madden, Peter Dinklage, Alfie Allen, Lena Headey.

Game Of Thrones is available to watch on NOW TV until April 2 2020

3. Alan Partridge’s Mid Morning Matters

If you’re looking to move away from the heavy dramas and on to something different, then look no further than Alan Partridge’s Mid Morning Matters. Steve Coogan returns as the hapless Alan Partridge, who is back on the radio and back insulting his listeners as he asks the UK the most brilliantly mundane questions –Mid Morning Matters is Partridge at his best.

The show follows Alan and his sidekick, Sidekick Simon, played brilliantly by Tim Key, as Alan looks to cement his career on the radio, following his disastrous TV failings, at North Norfolk Digital. The series is filmed through a ‘live webcam’ angle, as we see Alan attempt to create his own radio drama and host the first-ever multimedia on-air radio book club, among other failures.

Created by Steve Coogan, Neil Gibbons, Rob Gibbons and Armando Ianucci, Alan Partridge’s Mid Morning Matters is the perfect cringe-fest for you to endure and enjoy.

Starring: Steve Coogan, Tim Key.

Season 2 of Alan Partridge’s Mid Morning Matters is available to watch on NOW TV until March 31 2020.

4. Modern Family

Staying on the comedy route, ABC’s longest-running comedy Modern Family is the perfect show to stay in and watch with the family.

The mockumentary series follows the lives of three related families; the Pritchetts, the Dunphy’s and the Tucker’s, as their own families look to tackle the ins and outs of everyday situations that most families go through.

The show has become one of the most successful sitcoms of the last decade, winning countless awards and has brilliantly tackled hot topics, including the themes of immigration and gay marriage in today’s society, with Mitchell and Cam’s same-sex relationship, in particular having a huge impact on how TV audiences see same-sex couples.

Modern Family is in its eleventh and final series and will definitely leave a huge gap in the TV world.

Starring: Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould.

Seasons 1-10 of Modern Family are available to watch on NOW TV until 26 Mar 2020 with Season 11 available until June 20 2020.

5. Chernobyl

Cast your minds back to last year and it seemed that all anyone could talk about was Chernobyl. Quite a strange topic of conversation, given the Chernobyl disaster happened almost 34 years ago, but the incredible dramatic retelling of the nuclear explosion became one of the most celebrated and discussed shows of recent times. It’s a brutal depiction of how the explosion affected its victims, coupled with how those in charge dealt with the disaster and the after-effects the nuclear explosion had on the Soviet Union’s demise, lead to Chernobyl receiving critical acclaim across the board, winning multiple awards and becoming the highest-rated TV show of all time on IMDb. In short, it’s a show that you simply cannot miss!

Starring: Ed Harris, Stellan Stargård, Emily Watson, Jessie Buckley, Paul Ritter.

Chernobyl is available to watch on NOW TV until December 31st 2020.

As well as plenty of Sky original programmes and HBO shows which are almost impossible to find on any other streaming services, NOW TV also has the latest releases from Sky Cinema, such as The Lion King, Toy Story 4 and The Secret Life Of Pets 2 all available in case you need to keep your children entertained during the lockdown.
