Tom Hanks has responded to Tim Allen missing out on Lightyear role to fellow actor Chris Evans.
The star, who voiced Woody in the Toy Story franchise, recently appeared on CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast and said that he ‘doesn’t understand’ why his former co-star – who played Buzz Lightyear – isn’t taking part again.
“How about that?” Hanks quipped. “I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen, and they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that.”

The Hollywood star went on to say that despite this, he’s glad people are getting the opportunity to visit the cinema once more, following the Covid pandemic.
Hanks continued: “Just as long as people come back to the motion picture theatre.
“I want to go back in the theatre with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common. That’s what I want to do and going to see a movie with them, I’m looking forward to that.”
The 65-year-old isn’t the only star to have called out the casting choice.
Recently, actress Patricia Heaton blasted Disney’s move, branding it a ‘huge mistake’.
Taking to Twitter, The Middle star penned: “Saw the trailer for Lightyear and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal @ofctimallen.
“Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns. Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?”
When people then pointed out that the film focuses on a different version of Buzz Lightyear, Heaton replied: “Okay, so the current Buzz Lightyear movie is an origin story – but the reason the character became so beloved is because of what Tim Allen created.
“Why remove the one element that makes us want to see it? #stupidhollywooddecisions.”
