Top Gear’s Freddie Flintoff has claimed he wants to go to space to prove ‘the Earth is flat’.

He made the revelation in an interview with The Sun ahead of the launch of the new series.

The ex-England cricketer said: “I am actually desperate to go into space.

“Oi, Bezos, get the first Prestonian into space! I’ll prove the earth is flat.”

He also poked fun at his fellow presenters, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris, saying: “Usually I have to work with Jamie Redknapp [on TV’s A League of Their Own] and I have to really try to look good. But with this pair, it doesn’t matter.”

The 43-year-old’s co-hosts took the jibe in good humour, with McGuiness replying: “We are just like trolls next to Freddie,” while Chris added: “We’re not under pressure in that regard.”

Series 31 of Top Gear returns this month on BBC One.

A one minute trailer has been released, which shows Flintoff, McGuiness, and Harris being offered the chance to drive a variety of supercars, including an Aston Martin V8 Vantage F1 Edition, a Lamborghini Huracan, and a Rolls Royce Dawn.

The trio also heads off to the British Grand Prix, go electric caravanning and take an international expedition to Iceland.

Fans were also given a sneak-peek of Flintoff screaming as he prepares to roll down a track inside a giant ball.

He yells: “What’s going on here!”
