Trailer Of The Witches Sees Anne Hathaway As Grand High Witch In Remake

A trailer has finally been released for the remake of The Witches and it shows the heartless Grand High Witch, played by Anne Hathaway, who has a “filthy evil plot” to rid the world of children.

A trailer has been dropped for the remake of The Witches, the 1990 dark comedy based on the Roald Dahl children book of the same name and it’s had an updated look with a whole lot of CGI shown in the trailer.

With a star-studded cast of stars including Octavia Spencer (The Help, The Shape of Water), Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones, The Hunger Games), Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth (Glee, BoJack Horseman) and comedy legend Chris Rock, the book has been reimagined once again for a modern audience, keeping the classic story current for generations to come.

Directed by Oscar-winner Robert Zemeckis, who’s background involves classics such as Forrest Gump and Back to the Future, the trailer shows the role of the Grand High Witch being played by Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables, The Devil Wears Prada) and despite wearing designer looking attire and having a glammed-up appearance, this is quite the unusual role for the actress. However, the witch’s true colours are shown for just the briefest of moments through the use of a hand mirror. This is much unlike poor Angelica Huston’s time playing the Grand High Witch in the original in 1990, as she was made to look like “the most extreme hag of a witch you’ve ever seen” with her being fully covered in latex for the transformation into her true witch form.

The original Grand High Witch was played by Angelica Huston in 1990.

In the trailer, child star Jahzir Kadeem Bruno – from the TV series Atlanta – plays the young boy who is taken by the coven and undergoes a massive CGI transformation to become a mouse. Much like the original, he manages to inform his grandma of the Grand High Witch’s intentions of ridding the world of children and together, they come up with a plan to stop her – this was a plot that was originally created by children’s author Roald Dahl in his 1983 graphic novel that inspired the classic family film that has given children all over the world nightmares for years since.

Unlike the coven of witches, who have an array of spells and potions, Spencer and her grandson are relying on nothing but pure bravery and love to conquer evil.

The Witches will be available to watch exclusively on HBO Max after Warner Bros and HBO came to the difficult decision following the COVID-19 shutdown.
