A trans woman has been ‘adopted’ by her best friend’s dad after she was rejected by her own father.
When Home and Away star Mat Stevenson heard that Belle Bambi wasn’t being supported by her family for being transgender, he and his daughter, Grace Hyland, decided to officially make her a member of theirs.
Announcing the happy news on TikTok, Belle’s bestie wrote: “My BFF’s dad left because she’s trans.
“So we did this: Dad is adopting her! He’s always supported me, and he wants to support Bambi, too.
“We’re sisters now!”
Belle also posted a video about the adoption, in which she explained how her biological father wasn’t accepting of her and was rejecting of the fact she was transitioning.
She said: “Some days I think about how my dad left me because I’m trans.”
Belle’s best friend, Hyland, also transitioned but was lucky enough to have a supportive dad.

She even appeared on the Australian show The Project and discussed her transition, alongside Stevenson.
Her dad said: “So for me it really made sense. All through Grace’s early years, she would gravitate to all things female. And when I saw Grace run towards authenticity and just jump over all the hurdles to do so, I, without doubt, had a front-row seat to the most courageous thing I’d seen.”
Hyland added that she knew she was a girl from a young age and was convinced that she was destined for a life of ‘unhappiness’ if she remained a boy.
The trans-TikTok star is fortunate to have a parent who is embracing her true identity.
Studies have shown that if a trans person is rejected from their family, they are more likely to get involved with substance abuse or even attempt suicide.
