“We’re going to be listening to some music, we’re going dancing, we’re going to be singing, we’re going to be keeping people’s names out of our mouths.”
Noah was referring to the shocking moment at the Academy Awards when Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her bald head.
The comedian said: “Jada, love you. Can’t wait for GI Jane 2.”
After initially laughing at the joke, Smith went up on the stage and slapped Rock, before returning to his seat and yelling: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”
The actor has since apologised for his behaviour and has announced his resignation from the Academy.
In a statement, the 53-year-old said his actions were ‘shocking, painful and inexcusable’.
He added: “The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home.
“I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.”
President of the Academy, David Rubin, confirmed they had ‘received and accepted’ Smith’s resignation and would ‘continue to move forward with disciplinary proceedings against him’.
