Bride Urged To Divorce New Husband As ‘Humiliating’ Vows Branded ‘Red Flag’
A groom has gone viral after delivering wedding vows so controversial that viewers urged his new bride to ‘run,’ with some even calling for an immediate divorce.
Wedding ceremonies are usually remembered for heartfelt promises, emotional speeches and declarations of lifelong love.
But every so often, one exchange of vows captures the internet’s attention for entirely the wrong reasons.
It’s not the first time a wedding has sparked outrage online.
In one widely shared story, a bride identified only as Casey stunned guests by abandoning her prepared vows altogether after discovering her fiancé had allegedly been having an affair.
Instead of declaring her love, she read explicit text messages reportedly exchanged between her husband-to-be and another woman.
According to Casey’s personal essay for Body+Soul, she learned about the alleged affair the night before the ceremony after the other woman sent her screenshots of intimate conversations with the groom.
Rather than cancel the wedding immediately, Casey decided to confront him publicly in front of family and friends.
“There will not be a wedding reception today,” she reportedly announced before reading the messages aloud, as the groom allegedly fled the ceremony. The dramatic moment quickly went viral, with many praising the bride for exposing the betrayal while others questioned whether such a confrontation belonged at the altar.
Now, another wedding has become one of TikTok’s biggest talking points — but this time, it wasn’t infidelity that left millions of viewers horrified.
Groom’s vows leave millions speechless
Wedding videographer Jonathan Pajak (@lensculture) recently shared footage from Michael and Destiny’s ceremony on TikTok.
The clip has since amassed more than 19 million views, with social media users fiercely debating whether the groom’s speech was simply playful humor or crossed a major line.
According to World Manual, the uncomfortable moment actually began before the official vows.
When asked whether he had anything he’d like to say to his bride before the ceremony, Michael reportedly replied: “I hope we have a lot of s**.”
The comment immediately raised eyebrows among guests and viewers alike.
But things only became more awkward once he began reading his vows.
“You’re screwed”
Michael reportedly opened his vows by quietly telling Destiny: “You’re screwed.”
He then continued with a string of jokes that many viewers described as inappropriate for such an emotional occasion.
“Only two things are required to keep me happy: Keep my belly full and my b***s empty,” he said.
“While you’re amazing at half of it, we really need to get you some cooking lessons.”
The jokes continued.
“There is no one I could ever love more in this lifetime… unless I actually get a chance to meet Margot Robbie.”
Then came the line many viewers felt crossed the line entirely.
“Nothing is better than the sound of gagging and headboards slamming.”
The comment prompted an immediate reaction from one of the people closest to him.
His own mother, who was officiating the ceremony, interrupted with a firm: “Michael!”
That brief exchange only added to the viral nature of the clip.
Viewers call the vows ‘humiliating’
As the video spread across TikTok and other social media platforms, thousands of people shared their disbelief.
Many argued there was a time and place for jokes, but a wedding ceremony in front of family and friends wasn’t it.
“I can’t believe he said that,” one viewer wrote.
Another commented: “I’m not even kidding, I would have walked away from that altar.”
A third added: “I would have ended it there.”
Others suggested the marriage itself should never have happened.
“Instant divorce, not even joking,” one person wrote.
“That’s HUMILIATING,” another added.
One viewer commented: “Pardon?! In front of loved ones? In front of his parents?! That’s horrifying.”
Another simply wrote: “That’s actually disgusting.”
“I would walk right out of that wedding if I was the bride.”
Many commenters also described the vows as a major ‘red flag,’ saying they demonstrated a lack of respect for Destiny on what should have been one of the most meaningful days of her life.
Some viewers defended the couple
Not everyone agreed with the backlash, however. Some argued that viral clips rarely tell the full story of a relationship.
Others pointed out that Destiny appeared to be laughing throughout parts of the speech and suggested the couple clearly shared the same sense of humor.
“Everyone in the comments is freaking out while his wife is cracking up,” one person wrote. “Context matters, folks.”
Another added: “She’s got a good sense of humor, I can tell. They’re gonna live happy together.”
Others argued that outsiders shouldn’t judge a decade-long relationship based on a short collection of clips.
The bride responds to the backlash
As criticism continued to mount, Destiny eventually addressed the controversy herself.
Writing on social media, she rejected the idea that Michael’s vows revealed deeper issues in their marriage.
“So [I’m] the bride and no this isn’t a red flag,” she wrote.
She explained that the pair had already been together for ten years before deciding to tie the knot.
“We have been together for 10 years now and decided to get married right before our 10th year.”
Her response prompted some viewers to reconsider their initial reactions, with many acknowledging that private humor can easily be misunderstood when viewed out of context by millions of strangers online.
While the internet focused almost exclusively on Michael’s controversial jokes, World Manual reports that his full vows also included several heartfelt moments.
Speaking sincerely to Destiny, he said: “With you and the girls by my side, I feel like I can conquer anything.”
“You all my life worth living; giving every breath of every day a purpose.”
Those emotional declarations were largely absent from the viral snippets circulating online, leading some viewers to argue the speech had been unfairly reduced to its most shocking moments.
Supporters suggested that while some jokes may have missed the mark publicly, they reflected the couple’s established relationship rather than disrespect.
