Influencer Gives Baby Very Unique Name – But People Think It’s ‘Criminal’
An influencer has chosen such a unique name for her baby that some people are branding it ‘criminal.’
Choosing a baby name can be one of the biggest decisions parents ever make.
While some stick with timeless classics, others search for something completely different in the hope of giving their child a name that stands out from the crowd.
But when names become too unusual, they can often spark fierce debate online.
One Australian influencer recently found herself at the center of that discussion after revealing the distinctive name she gave her young son.
While many followers praised the choice as creative and memorable, others branded it ‘criminal’ and questioned whether it would suit him later in life.
The debate quickly spread across social media, with thousands weighing in on where the line should be drawn between unique and unconventional baby names.
Some countries actually ban unusual baby names
While most parents are free to choose almost any name they like, several countries around the world have introduced rules designed to protect children from potentially embarrassing or offensive names.
In some cases, authorities have rejected names because they were considered impractical, inappropriate, or likely to attract ridicule.
One of the most famous examples came from Sweden, where officials refused to register the proposed name Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116 after parents submitted it as a protest against naming regulations.
The parents claimed it was pronounced ‘Albin,’ but authorities were unconvinced.
Sweden has also rejected names including Metallica due to trademark concerns, although some other band-inspired names have been approved.
France has blocked names that could expose children to mockery, including Nutella and Fraise, the French word for strawberry. Officials argued the names could potentially cause problems for children as they grew older.
Elsewhere, New Zealand has gained attention for rejecting several unusual choices, including Fish, Chips, and Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii. In one particularly notable case, a judge approved a legal name change after finding the child was embarrassed by the lengthy name.
Australia has also refused names such as LOL and Spinach, while Russia blocked a name made up of letters and numbers that authorities considered unsuitable for official records.
The debate surrounding unusual names often comes down to one question: should parents prioritize originality, or consider how a name might affect a child later in life?
That same discussion erupted online after an Australian influencer revealed the name she chose for her son.
Influencer reveals son’s unusual name
Fitness influencer Chloe Sapic, who has built an audience of more than 100,000 followers on TikTok, finally revealed her son’s name after months of keeping it private.
The 24-year-old frequently shares content about health, fitness, and family life, and since becoming a mother she has regularly featured her son in videos.
In September 2024, Chloe posted a clip announcing what she described as her baby’s ‘VERY unique name.’
The unusual choice immediately caught viewers’ attention.
While animal-inspired names aren’t uncommon, Grizzly is certainly one of the more distinctive examples.
Chloe later explained that the name seemed especially fitting because her son is noticeably larger than many children his age. In another social media post, she joked that her seven-month-old was already around half her height, although she admitted she is on the shorter side herself.
The influencer appeared delighted by the reaction and suggested there would be plenty of nickname options as her son grows older.
Her followers were equally quick to offer their own suggestions.

Fans are divided
The comments section quickly filled with opinions from people who either loved or hated the name.
Many supporters praised Chloe for choosing something different.
One commenter wrote: “It’s different but I get it. I also love a unique name though I’ve got Drover & Rowdy, Everleigh has the normal name.”
Chloe responded enthusiastically: “HAHA yep he will be the cool guy around town, I reckon so many nicknames he can have!”
Other parents joined the discussion by sharing unusual names they had chosen for their own children.
Among the names mentioned were Bowie, Zion, Enzo, Saint, Knoxlar, and Rukus.
One mother proudly commented:
“My first son is called Rukus (like ‘causing a Ruckus’).”
Not everyone was convinced, however.
Some questioned how the name would sound once the child reached adulthood.
One viewer joked: “When I think of unique baby names, I imagine the kids as a grown-up 40-year-old businessman in a meeting, introducing himself.”
The discussion highlighted a common criticism often aimed at highly unusual baby names: while they may sound cute for a child, some people wonder whether they will still work in professional settings decades later.
That criticism only intensified when Chloe later shared a list of other names she had considered for her second son.
People call the name ‘criminal’
Holding her son, she told followers: “With no further ado, it’s… Grizzly Odell.”
The debate resurfaced in 2026 after Chloe, now pregnant with her second boy, posted a TikTok discussing the unusual names she loved but ultimately wouldn’t be using.
The 26-year-old explained that she and her husband had already selected a name for their unborn son, though she wasn’t ready to reveal it yet.
Instead, she shared several contenders that didn’t make the final cut.
Among them were Runner, Boa, Rodeo, Paris, Reacher, Jagger, Sled, Rugs, Gator, Moab, Ridge, West, and Ranger.
Discussing Runner, she said: “I absolutely love that.”
She also described Boa as: “So beautiful, so cute.”
When talking about Bear, however, Chloe explained why it wasn’t an option.
“My son is called Grizzly, if you didn’t know that, after the bear. So, I can’t have Grizzly and a bear.”
The video quickly attracted criticism from viewers who felt the names were too unconventional.
One commenter wrote: “Just remember your baby will be an adult one day and these names will no longer be cute.”
Another added: “I wish this was satire…”
A third wrote: “Don’t destroy his life. It’s unfair.”
Another echoed: “This is cruel. It isn’t fair to him.”
Others focused specifically on Grizzly. “Sorry did you say your son’s name is Grizzly?”
A fourth commenter was even more direct: “Grizzly is criminal.”
Several viewers argued that the names sounded more like everyday words than names.
One person commented: “These are words… not names.”
Another wrote: “What are these names bro.”
Someone else questioned whether the names were truly unique or simply impractical, asking: “‘Unique’ or ridiculous?”
Another commenter added: “If you have to explain your child’s name and spell it, it’s ridiculous.”
Chloe wasn’t fazed by the criticism and responded: “Thank gosh some people have open minds.”
