A dating expert has revealed the ‘red flag’ jobs that make her instantly reject a potential romantic partner.

It can be difficult to know what exactly to prioritize when searching for someone to start a relationship with.

Some would argue that something as surface level as their choice of job shouldn’t matter when it comes to your soulmate.

However, dating columnist Jana Hocking is inclined to disagree.

Although she acknowledges some may find her views controversial or shallow, she argues a person’s job reflects their personality and interests, which play a significant role in compatibility.

In a piece for MailOnline, Hocking recounted a particularly disastrous date with a vegan café owner as the catalyst for her insights.

What began as a charming encounter when the man heroically helped her injured friend soon took a nosedive.

Over a meal at his café, she discovered he was a militant vegan who engaged in extreme activism, such as freeing farm animals and confronting farmers.

Hocking, whose family runs a cattle stud, found this behavior deeply incompatible with her values.

The date ended abruptly, with her storming out and cutting ties with him on social media.

Hocking reflected on this experience and realized discussing careers early in the process can help avoid mismatches, save time, energy, and most importantly, emotional investment.

Now, the dating expert has developed a list of professions she would prefer to avoid in potential partners, arguing that the nature of a person’s work often influences their personality and daily interactions.

A dealbreaker for Hocking is someone who works in numbers and spreadsheets, as she finds them dull and uninspiring.

She notes that her chaotic financial habits and love for dramatic storytelling would clash with an accountant’s likely preference for order and precision.

Next, Hocking notes the medical professional. While it’s a career she respects, she admits that discussions about complex medical terminology bore her.

Similarly, she feels her spontaneous and eclectic lifestyle would be at odds with office managers, whose organizational skills and structured nature might lead to unnecessary friction.

On the other hand, Hocking finds herself drawn to creative and eclectic professions.

She is particularly fascinated by actors, whose eccentric and adventurous lifestyles align well with her’s.

Chefs also appeal to her, especially those who can craft culinary masterpieces. Watching a partner work magic in the kitchen is, in her opinion, irresistibly attractive.

Hocking also admits a surprising exception to her aversion to medical professionals, as doctors and nurses intrigue her with their dramatic and often shocking workplace stories.

Ultimately, the dating expert believes a partner’s profession can be a helpful ‘hack’ to gauge compatibility and avoid wasting time.
