Expert Dubbed The ‘Godfather Of AI’ Lists Jobs That Won’t Exist In As Soon As 24 Months
The expert warned that the AI takeover is ‘beginning to happen already.’
Being an adult is hard, and it’s safe to say that AI makes life just that little bit easier.
From answering quick questions to summarizing lengthy documents, it can assist us in some capacity in most fields of work.
But the ever-looming fear that AI is ‘taking over’ has never been more real.
And companies laying off staff members in favor of bots doesn’t help with the obvious concern that humans will soon be replaced.
We recently saw tech giant Microsoft let go of 9,000 workers, all while announcing an $80 billion investment into AI.
Concern is definitely growing, but some industries are more at risk than others, according to Geoffrey Hinton – dubbed the ‘Godfather of AI.’
Co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, has pitched the scenario in a slightly different way, noting that humans will get more time for play over work, thanks to AI.
But most of us are just questioning how we’re going to pay the bills.

Speaking on Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast, Hinton predicted exactly who is at risk, and how long they have left in their role.
Hinton is a British-Canadian computer scientist, cognitive scientist, and cognitive psychologist, known for his work on artificial neural networks.
He’s also a former Google employee and has been very vocal about the risks technology poses in the modern world.
Despite creative industries usually being at the center of this conversation, the expert issued a warning to telemarketers and cold callers, junior legal and financial analysts, and customer service and marketing assistants.
The 77-year-old said: “If I worked in a call center, I’d be terrified.”
When pushed for an exact timeframe for when this may happen, Hinton responded: “I think it’s beginning to happen already.
“I read an article in The Atlantic recently that said it’s already getting hard for university graduates to get jobs.
“And part of that may be that people are already using AI for the jobs they would have gotten.”

Hinton noted that legal assistants and paralegals wouldn’t be needed for ‘very long,’ as he concluded: “If you get a big increase in productivity, everybody should be better off.
“But if you can replace lots of people by AIs, then the people who get replaced will be worse off, and the company that supplies the AIs will be much better off than the company that uses the AIs.”
But it’s good news for one industry, whose skills can’t be replicated by AI… as of yet.
It’s a great day for all the tradies, but specifically plumbers, who Hinton suggested are pretty much ‘safe.’
Hinton left Google in 2023 so that he could speak freely about the dangers of AI.
At a conference in the same year, he warned: “AI trained by good people will have a bias towards good; AI trained by bad people such as Putin or somebody like that will have a bias towards bad.
“We know they’re going to make battle robots. They’re not going to necessarily be good since their primary purpose is going to be to kill people.”
