An influencer has gone viral after explaining to her followers why she and her boyfriend ate a part of her knee in a bolognese.

Spanish social media influencer Paula Gonu, 30, underwent knee surgery after suffering an injury and she then decided to repurpose the discarded cartilage to make a meal for her and her partner.

Gonu opened up about the unusual decision during a YouTube interview on Club 113 podcast.

The content creator shared that her surgeon had given her the option to keep the meniscus – the soft cartilage found on the side of the knees – after the operation and that she accepted the offer.

She said that the surgeon carefully placed the meniscus in a sealed container filled with alcohol to preserve it.

Gonu went on to say that the surgeon operated through two holes and the procedure was actually up on a screen, adding: “He explained everything to me as he operated.”

According to a translation by Indy100, Gonu shared an anecdote about a playful conversation she had with her partner a week after the surgery.

She expressed a humorous desire to consume the preserved meniscus, considering it as a part of herself that should be reintegrated into her body.

As a result, the influencer decided to incorporate the meniscus into a homemade bolognese dish that they both enjoyed together.

Gonu went on to say that this experience allowed her to claim that she had eaten a portion of her own meniscus, creating a unique personal connection.

The influencer defended her choice by asserting that people consume the bones, cartilage, and body parts of ‘worse animals’ on a regular basis.

Many people have taken to social media and reacted to Gonu eating a part of her own knee.

One person comments: “My stomach hurt. Now it hurts even more. Thank you.”

Another jokingly says: “I really have to close TikTok now.”

While not explicitly condoned, it is worth noting that there are no specific legal statutes against c****balism in countries like the US, UK, and Germany.

In instances where c****balism has occurred, such as following a murder, the perpetrator is typically charged with other accompanying crimes like murder.

Alternatively, if an individual consumes the flesh of a ‘willing’ participant, the charges may include ‘murder and disturbing the peace of the dead’, as evidenced in a specific case.
