Mom Horrified Over ‘Inappropriate’ Symbol On Children’s Underwear
A horrified mom is urging a store to pull its ‘s**ually suggestive’ kids’ underwear from sale.
Nicola Pritchard, from Cannock, Staffordshire, U.K., purchased a £2.50 four-pack set of female undergarments from the budget retailer Poundland’s Pepco range to give to her 10-year-old daughter.
Later, the 40-year-old’s child asked her what a symbol emblazoned across one of the pairs meant – when she looked it up she was ‘absolutely gobsmacked.’

The mom-of-three said: “I had previously bought some [underwear] for my daughter with a different design and she said how comfortable they were.
“I thought she would like these ones. They were in a pack of four and you could only see the front pair was gingham.”
Sold under the store’s Japanese-themed cat range, one pair featured a symbol that Pritchard’s daughter was confused by.
Also unsure, the mom Googled the symbol on front and learned it translated to ‘cat’ or p***ycat’ in both Chinese and Japanese.
“So I put into Google Translate and Google Lens and it said the symbol on the front of her knickers is the slang term for cat. In other words, ‘p***y’ ‘p***, moggy,’ something like that,” Pritchard explained.
“If the pants had anything to do with cats, like pictures of cats or something like that [that would be fine] but there’s no correlation as to why this symbol should be on there, especially on children’s pants.
“I was absolutely gobsmacked. These [even] come in ages three to four in Poundland.”

Pritchard immediately contacted Poundland to complain about the ‘inappropriate’ symbol. She believes this set was incorrectly processed and is calling for them to be urgently pulled from shelves.
The retailer said that although the undergarment was a part of its Japanese-themed cat range, it understood why the mom questioned one item out of context and apologized.
Pritchard claims Poundland told her they would launch a full investigation into the underwear.
Yet days later, the mom returned to the retailer and was shocked to see the pants were still being sold.
“It seemed like they weren’t taking this seriously at all,” Pritchard said. “I went into the store [days after complaining] and they were still selling them.”
She continued: “The fact they are on girls’ knicker is baffling. How it was able to get through production, I can’t get my head round how it managed to get through and to sale.
“It’s got no place on children’s knickers. I think there’s s**ual connotations to it. It’s not even the proper name for a cat, it’s the slang name.
“I can’t see any reason why they should be on girls’ knickers. It’s completely inappropriate.”

The mom-of-three is calling for the pants to be recalled before more parents purchase the ‘inappropriate’ underwear for their kids.
She stated: “They should be recalled. I truly believe that Poundland didn’t know and there was a problem in manufacturing but that it has been somewhere along the lines.
“I don’t think they’ve done it intentionally.”
A Poundland spokesperson stated: “While these are part of a wider Japanese-themed cat range that includes socks and vests, we understand why Nicola questioned one item out of the context of the whole range.
“It goes without saying we apologize for that, and we appreciate her getting in touch with us.”
