Pet Owner Returns To His Home After LA Wildfires And Breaks Down In Tears At What He Discovers
A pet owner who returned to his home following the LA wildfires was left in tears by what he discovered.
The Los Angeles wildfires, which ignited on January 7, have left a catastrophic toll in their wake.
With 24 confirmed fatalities and countless homes reduced to rubble, the devastation is palpable.
Entire communities have been uprooted, and among those affected are several high-profile individuals whose homes were caught in the blaze.
One particularly moving story centers on Casey Colvin, a resident of the Palisades—a neighborhood devastated by the fires.
Colvin’s journey to reunite with his two beloved dogs, Oreo and Tika Tika Tika, has not only touched those in his community but has also resonated far beyond, going viral on social media platform X.
Social media users were quick to respond, praising both Colvin’s unwavering determination and Oreo’s resilience.
When the evacuation orders were issued, Colvin was not home.
Tragically, Oreo and Tika Tika Tika remained behind as the fires approached. Returning to the neighborhood became an arduous task for Colvin, as roadblocks and hazardous conditions prevented access to his property.
Overwhelmed with emotion, he shared his distress with NBC News correspondent Liz Kreutz, breaking down in tears as he said: “I literally rescued them [the dogs] off the street, they deserve better than this. How do I get to my house?!”
Kreutz later shared the details of the encounter on Instagram, describing how a firefighter, overhearing Colvin’s plea, stepped in to help.
Despite the risks, the firefighter ventured into the property, which had not yet succumbed to the flames, and returned with Tika Tika Tika.
This moment of relief, however, was bittersweet.
Kreutz explained: “We were there as Casey reunited with his sweet girl. But Oreo, a rescue who Casey says is behavioral, apparently ran out of the house and is now missing.”
Unfortunately, Colvin’s home was later consumed by the fire, leaving him heartbroken and fearing the worst for Oreo.
Determined to find his missing dog, Colvin spent the following days tirelessly searching his scorched neighborhood.
He handed out flyers, called out for Oreo, and refused to give up hope.
After five agonizing days, Colvin’s perseverance paid off.
A passerby spotted Oreo nestled among the debris of what had once been Colvin’s home.
Rushing to the scene, Colvin was overcome with relief and joy as he spotted his dog.
In an emotional video capturing the reunion, Colvin can be heard exclaiming: “Oh my god, you’re alive! You’re alive! Thank you, God.”
He scooped up Oreo, holding the dog tightly in his arms and celebrating the moment with a triumphant fist pump.
Kreutz later shared the footage, calling it “the best news.”
One user commented: “Such a sweet moment. So glad they were reunited.”
Another wrote: “This could be the one thing holding someone’s life together after such tragedy. My heart is so full for this man.”
Though Colvin lost his home to the wildfires, his story serves as a poignant reminder of hope and love in the face of immense loss.
