Scientists believe that they have been contacted four times by aliens.

The prospect of not being the only life form in the galaxy is something to which astronomers are dedicating their work.

Whether it be reported UFO sightings in the sky or apparently seeing an alien on camera, there is genuine interest in finding out what else is in the universe.

However, it seems we may have just got our clearest message yet.

Scientists from Australia have discovered an ‘impossible’ spinning object in space that sent repeating radio signals to Earth every 18 minutes.

A mysterious object that is just 4,000 light years away from Earth is unlike anything ever seen before in space, astronomers have said.

The object was discovered by a university student working on his undergraduate thesis and it is emitting a massive burst of radio waves three times each hour.

Dr Natasha Hurley-Walker, from Curtin University, International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR), took over the research after the student found out about the signals.

Speaking to News Science and Nature, she said that object was appearing every 18.18 minutes, which had never been noticed before

She adds: “That was completely unexpected. It was kind of spooky for an astronomer because there’s nothing known in the sky that does that.

“And it’s really quite close to us — about 4,000 light years away. It’s in our galactic backyard.”

The scientific community is now trying to figure out what they’ve discovered, with Hurley-Walker ‘concerned that it was aliens’.

She explains: “If you do all of the mathematics, you find that they shouldn’t have enough power to produce these kinds of radio waves every 20 minutes.

“It just shouldn’t be possible. But that’s quite unusual as well. We only know of one white dwarf pulsar, and nothing as great as this.

“Of course, it could be something that we’ve never even thought of—it could be some entirely new type of object.”

Scientists and astronomers from all over are now working to find out what this signal is.

They were able to establish a few facts about the mysterious wave after going through years of data.

They believe that the object is around 4,000 light-years from Earth, is extraordinarily bright, and has a very strong magnetic field.

But there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding it.

This is not the first time scientists have admitted that they might have had contact with extraterrestrial life.

In 2017 Harvard University astrophysicist Avi Loeb spotted an unidentified object passing through our solar system.

The object was named ‘Oumuamua’ – a Hawaiian word roughly meaning ‘scout’ – and experts noticed it was much shinier than any asteroid or rock that has been discovered in our solar system.

Another incident was when a star called KIC 8462852 – but was named ‘Tabby’s Star’ after Dr Tabetha Boyajian who first discovered it – was found in 2015.

This is believed to be a product of aliens due to its unrecognisable dips in brightness, which dimmed more than 20 per cent compared to other star systems outside of our own

The final ‘proof’ of alien contact comes from the 70s when Dr Jerry Ehman spotted a 72-second blast through a radio telescope from Sagittarius – a black hole in space.

The blast did not match any known celestial object, but he noticed the surprisingly strong signal in a column of alphanumerical data.

This translated to the word ‘wow’.

As astronomers couldn’t identify the signal from anywhere on Earth or our solar system, they speculated that it could be a message or broadcast coming from another solar system.
