Skydiver’s Haunting Final Words As He Realized He Forgot His Parachute After Jumping
A skydiver who forgot his parachute while jumping shared some haunting final words.

In a tragic and haunting incident that has captivated the world, experienced skydiver Ivan Lester McGuire lost his life after realizing that he had jumped out of a plane without a parachute.
In April 1988, McGuire was filming at the Franklin County Sport Parachute Center in North Carolina, during a skydiving session at 10,500 feet in the air, the LA Times reported.
He had been tasked with capturing footage of a student and an instructor making their jumps.
As he exited the plane, McGuire was unaware that he had forgotten to strap on his parachute.
McGuire’s tragic death was particularly shocking because of his vast experience as a skydiver.
With over 800 jumps to his name, it seemed unimaginable that someone so seasoned could make such a fundamental error.
Authorities speculated that fatigue or distraction might have contributed to his lapse in judgment.
Walter Rigsbee, an inspector from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), stated at the time: “We haven’t gotten all the facts yet, but there is a regulation, No. 105, that states that the pilot must check… no one may jump unless the pilot checks the parachutes.”
As part of the investigation, McGuire’s colleagues were questioned, including the pilot, Mark Luman.
The investigation ruled out s**cide, and after careful review, it was concluded that McGuire’s death was a tragic accident.
The skydiver’s body was discovered about a mile from the airfield, and his death, at the age of 35, was ruled accidental.
Nancy Fayard, wife of the parachute center owner Paul Fayard, expressed shock over the incident, explaining that no one realized McGuire had boarded the plane without a parachute.
“Of course, no one knew, or they would have stopped him,” she said.
The video, which has since gone viral, captures McGuire’s final moments as he plunges toward the Earth.
In a chilling moment, the skydiver suddenly realizes the grave mistake he has made.
The shock and panic are evident in his final words, “Oh my God, no,” which are recorded in the footage.
