Undertaker Caitlin Doughty, who runs the YouTube channel Ask a Mortician, explored the ‘worst’ ways to die in a Q&A session.

In the video, she brought up ‘bad deaths’ across cultures which involved tragedy, homicide, horrific accidents, and cases where the body was never found.

The undertaker then went on to discuss the ‘worst’ way a person can die, which is when she brought up the Persian method of scaphism, also referred to as ‘the boats.’

People have taken to social media and reacted to the undertaker’s video, horrified by this brutal manner of death.

One person writes: “Glad we’re more civilized these days, for the most part.”

Another adds: “Words fail me.”

“Who even thinks of these?” questions a third.

In the viral video, the undertaker delved into scaphism and its brutality.

Doughty said: “First your body is stripped naked and you’re put between two hollowed-out logs with your head and limbs sticking out. Then they pour honey all over you and force you to ingest honey which attracts insects.

“Then they leave you in a stagnate pond to be slowly eaten – but they come back every day to forcibly feed you more milk and honey so you don’t die right away, eventually succumbing to exposure, dehydration, shock, and delirium.”

According to Britannica, the punishment’s involvement of milk and honey also led to diarrhea, which would stay with the person within the wooden enclosure.

The horrific concept ensured that the victim suffered a slow and torturous death that could last for days or even weeks.
