What Happened To Man Who Filmed Himself As Snake Ate Him Alive
If you’ve ever wondered exactly what would happen to you if you were eaten alive by a snake, then wonder no more, because one man has done it for us, and recorded the entire thing.
In tale that truly is just as bizarre as it sounds, Paul Rosolie actually volunteered to be eaten by a snake and he did it for a very good reason too.
For most of us it sounds like the type of thing nightmares are made of, but for Rosolie, appearing on Eaten Alive was a matter of principle.
As a conservationist, Rosolie founded a non-profit organisation called Junglekeepers, which works to protect rainforest in Peru’s Madre de Dios region, and in March 2014, he released his first book, Mother of God: An Extraordinary Journey into the Uncharted Tributaries of the Western Amazon.
However, it was later that year when Rosolie’s work gained the most momentum, after he hosted the controversial Discovery Channel nature documentary special, Eaten Alive, where he was.. you guessed it, eaten alive by a giant snake.
Why was Paul Rosolie eaten alive by a snake
Although the stunt was heavily criticised by both viewers of the show and animal rights organisations, Rosolie maintained that he went through with the deed to bring public attention to the deforestation, hunting and gold mining that was threatening the anaconda’s habitat.
He later complained about the fact the Discovery Channel had cut the majority of the conservation content from the programme, instead focusing on the stunt alone.
In an interview with Today, Rosalie said: “It actually started with me watching the rainforest get burned and getting really frustrated that people weren’t as excited about it as I was.
“I wanted to do something that was going to grab people’s attention. People have tried everything else. I work down there year after year, and you see this habitat being destroyed.”
How it went when Paul Rosolie tried to get eaten by a snake
When it actually came to the main event, Rosolie was given a custom-made carbon fibre suit to protect him from the snake’s fangs and prevent him from being crushed to death.
The suit was also fitted with an oxygen tank that would allow him to breathe, as well as a microphone and camera so, not only could he be monitored at all times, but to record exactly what was going on throughout the process.
And finally, the suit was lathered in pig’s blood in a bid to tempt the giant anaconda into eating him. Pretty gnarly stuff.
As predicted, the snake was enticed by the pig’s blood and quickly began constricting around Rosolie, rather than just eating him whole. However, this meant the conservationist could no longer move, prompting him to call the whole thing off over fears the snake was going to break his arm.
What happened to Paul Rosolie?
Well, given the fact Rosolie had to call off the stunt before it went too far, at least we know he lived to tell the tale.
Although he confessed he’s usually the type of guy who will keep saying ‘I’m fine,’ right up until he’s dead, fortunately he was able to speak up and pull the plug before he died for real.
As the serpent latched onto his head, Rosolie could be heard telling the crew: “Stand by guys, I’m starting to feel like she’s consuming me. Guys, my face is down. I’m calling it, I need help!”
With the crew rushing in to help, the conservationist was just fine and the bizarre footage went on to be televised to much criticism.
Now, Rosolie is continuing his conservation work, having moved much of his efforts to India, where he studied migration habits of tigers and elephants in the forests of Wayanad.
Most recently, the 38-year-old published his third book Junglekeeper: What It Takes to Change the World, which appeared on the New York Times Best Sellers list. So, you could say he’s doing alright got himself.
He also hasn’t shied away from other attention-grabbing stunts after recently posting a video of a giant arachnid crawling across his face on social media.
