Woman Names Baby After Disney Character And People Won’t Stop Mocking Them
A mom has gone viral for naming her daughter after a Disney character.
Lisa Morphy, from the U.K., admits that choosing such an unconventional moniker for her child has occasionally presented challenges for the family.
Members of the older generation have expressed concern that the girl may be bullied because of her name, but the mom remains confident in her decision.
Though the girl’s name often draws attention, the family wouldn’t have it any other way.
People have taken to social media and reacted after hearing the girl’s name.
One person writes: “Poor child.”
Another asks: “Is this a joke?”
“People have a lot to answer for when naming their children,” remarks a third.
Meanwhile, others have taken to the comments and defended the mom’s name choice.
“It’s sweet,” insists one person.
In agreement, a second says: “Love the name.”
Morphy tells MailOnline: “Airport check-ins can be hard, and people turn around or whisper when I call her name in public, but I don’t care.”
She adds: “Not everyone understands it, but we’ve raised her to be proud of her name, and she’s very confident in who she is.”
Officials had to check whether Disney had copyrighted the name when the girl’s parent went to register her birth at six weeks old.
Fortunately, there were no legal issues.
Five-year-old Snow-White Jennifer Morphy is believed to be the only child in the world to carry the full name of the iconic Disney princess.
Her mom had already welcomed three sons before she was born – she had assumed her chances of having a daughter were slim.
“When my son suggested we call her Snow-White, I thought it was amazing,” Morphy recalled.
Although some tried to convince the mom to change her mind about the name, Morphy was captivated by the idea.
“Everyone thought I was mad when I told them the name,” she admits.
Snow-White, in turn, adores her unique name.
Morphy explains: “She loves it – if people call her Snow, she corrects them – and she tells everyone how she’s a princess.”
For Morphy, having Snow-White felt like a miracle.
Years earlier, she had been hospitalized when doctors discovered a cyst wrapped around her ovary, leading to the removal of 75% of her ovarian tissue.
She was warned that conceiving again would be unlikely.
Against the odds, Snow-White was born, making her arrival even more special for the family.
True to her name, Snow-White is enchanted by all things Disney. Her bedroom is decorated in a Disney princess theme, and she has an array of costumes.
She loves singing and dancing, and, as her mom describes, she has a ‘princess attitude,’ often bossing around her older brothers.
