Daredevil Climbs One Of World’s Tallest Towers Before Realizing It’s Covered In Grease
A daredevil accomplished an awe-inspiring but perilous feat when he scaled one of the world’s tallest towers, which happened to be covered in grease.
Adam Lockwood, a free climber from Manchester, shared the daring stunt on his YouTube Channel Nuisance, where he has over 15,000 subscribers.
In the viral video, titled ‘Hanging off the tallest crane in Dubai (390m) after getting caught,’ his impressive skills and the immense challenge he faced are captured.
Lockwood’s adventure began with a bold infiltration – security guards initially halted his access to the crane atop the 77-story Il Primo residential skyscraper, near the iconic Burj Khalifa.
But through quick thinking and Google Translate, Lockwood convinced a guard he was a worker who had forgotten something
The free climber recalled: “He showed me the stairs, watched me walk down a floor, and left. I changed to the opposite stairwell and carried on going up, my blag worked.”
Still, the ascent through the building was fraught with obstacles – workers were present on almost every floor, forcing him to switch stairwells multiple times over two hours.
Once he reached the top, another challenge awaited: he had only brought a single GoPro battery, which was nearly drained.
This left Lockwood with just minutes to record his fearless climb.
Lockwood’s video documented his daring movements along the crane’s structure.
Suspended hundreds of meters above the ground, he performed stunts like hanging by one hand and dangling upside down by his legs.
Initially mistaking the grime on the crane’s bars for desert dust, the daredevil soon realized the surface was coated in grease, making every move precarious.
The slippery coating led to several heart-stopping moments during the climb and descent.
Despite this, Lockwood’s focus remained unwavering.
He reflected: “Hanging off things doesn’t feel like much. It feels surreal to be suspended that high with no safety, but like all my other hangs, my brain is blank, my heartbeat doesn’t go up, and it feels almost peaceful.”
Lockwood’s descent required him to blend in with workers, donning a hard hat and slipping away unnoticed.
Exhausted, he spent the following day recovering. Overall, he was immensely happy with how it all turned out.
The free climber said: “When I first looked at the footage, I was thinking to myself, ‘This is it, this is the most incredible thing I’ve done.’
“The fact I hung off the tallest crane in Dubai on the doorstep of the world’s tallest building is something special. I feel like it was definitely worth the risk and legal consequences if I was caught.”
He added: “It’s something I know I can do and that 99 percent of the world can’t and never will do. I feel obliged to use my ability and enjoy doing it in the process.”
