Vivienne Westwood Dead: The English fashion designer and businesswoman has died aged 81.

Dame Vivienne Westwood has died aged 81. 

Westwood was an iconic fashion designer and businesswoman known for bringing modern punk and new-wave fashion into the mainstream.

Her husband and creative partner, Andreas Kronthaler, has spoken out following her passing.

He told BBC News: “I will continue with Vivienne in my heart.

“We have been working until the end and she has given me plenty of things to get on with.”

Westwood’s fashion house took to Instagram and confirmed her passing in a statement.

It said she died on December 29 ‘peacefully and surrounded by her family’ in Clapham, South London.

It read: “29th December 2022.

“Vivienne Westwood died today, peacefully and surrounded by her family, in Clapham, South London.

“The world needs people like Vivienne to make a change for the better.

“Vivienne continued to do the things she loved, up until the last moment, designing, working on her art, writing her book, and changing the world for the better. She led an amazing life.

“Her innovation and impact over the last 60 years has been immense and will continue into the future.”

It continued:  “Vivienne considered herself a Taoist.

“She wrote, ‘Tao spiritual system. There was never more need for the Tao today.

“Tao gives you a feeling that you belong to the cosmos and gives purpose to your life; it gives you such a sense of identity and strength to know you’re living the life you can live and therefore ought to be living: make full use of your character and full use of your life on Earth’.

“The world needs people like Vivienne to make a change for the better.”

After hearing the tragic news, thousands of Westwood’s fans have taken to social media and paid tribute.

One follower said: “An inspiration to all. An icon. And a beautiful soul.”

Another added: “An absolute icon and there will never be another like her.”

While a third person penned: “Such a great loss… May she rest in peace.”

“Another legend has passed, I’m heartbroken,” a fourth commented.

Someone else said: “The end of an era. RIP.”

The legendary designer was born in 1941, in the Derbyshire village of Tintwistle.

She made a name for herself on the fashion scene during the 1970s thanks to her slogan T-shirts, androgynous designs and attitude towards the establishment.

Westwood was also known for her activism work.

She staged public protests for numerous causes and campaign movements regarding climate change.
