Vladimir Putin has written a letter to King Charles III, paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth following her death.

Despite the recent tensions and fighting involving Russia and Ukraine, the Russian President reached out to the new Monarch in a telegram.

In the message, Putin wrote: “The most important events in the recent history of the United Kingdom are inextricably linked with the name of Her Majesty.

“For many decades, Elizabeth II rightfully enjoyed the love and respect of her subjects, as well as authority on the world stage.

I wish you courage and perseverance in the face of this heavy, irreparable loss. I ask you to convey the words of sincere sympathy and support to the members of the royal family and all the people of Great Britain.”

The Queen passed away aged 96 at her home in Balmoral, Scotland.

Her children, King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward were by her side, along with Prince William.

Putin isn’t the only public figure to pay tribute to the Queen.

Pope Francis sent a telegram to King Charles, in which he wrote: “I willingly join all who mourn her loss in praying for the late Queen’s eternal rest, and in paying tribute to her unstinting service to the good of the nation and the Commonwealth, her example of devotion to duty, her steadfast witness of faith in Jesus Christ and her firm hope in his promises.”

France has lowered the flags to half mast at the Presidential Palace and other public buildings in honour of the Queen.

President Emmanuel Macron added: “The woman who stood alongside the giants of the 20th century on the path of history has left to join them.”

Meanwhile, the newly-appointed prime minister Liz Truss, who met the queen in Balmoral earlier this week, addressed the nation, where she paid her respects to Her Majesty.

She described her as ‘the rock that on which modern Britain was built’ and said she ‘provided us with the strength and stability we needed’.

The Prime Minister also addressed King Charles, by stating: “With the king’s family, we mourn the loss of his mother, and as we mourn, we must come together as a people to support him.

“To help him bear the awesome responsibility that he now carries for us all.”
