Vladimir Putin’s former advisor has claimed there’s only one way to stop him and his invasion of Ukraine

Andrei Illarionov, who worked for the Russian President as an economic advisor from 2000 to 2005, told Newsmax TV that people need to show ‘resistance’.

He explained: “He knows what he wants and is trying to implement policy to achieve his goals.

“The only thing that can really stop Putin in Ukraine and in Europe, is resistance. Resistance that is being produced by the Ukrainian military, while all Ukrainian people that heroically resisting these aggressions.”

He went on to say that the 69-year-old is just as ‘concentrated’ and as ‘calculated’ as ever.

However, this has been put into question by many within the international community, including the former US Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice.

She told Fox News: “This is a different Putin. He was always calculating and cold but this is different. He seems erratic.”

Ex-US Secretary Robert Gates also told CNN that Putin has ‘gone off the rails’.

Last month, on February 24, the President sent a chilling warning to the west in a TV broadcast.

In his statement, he said that nobody should ‘interfere’ with his plans with Ukraine, and if they did, they would face ‘consequences’.

He said: “To anyone who would consider interfering from the outside – if you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have faced in history.”

It’s believed that at around the same time, explosions in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, could be heard.

Before the President sent out his warning, the United Nations reportedly held an emergency meeting.
