Waitress Who Was Denied $2,000 Tip Has Finally Been Paid By Her Boss

A waitress who was denied a $2,000 tip she was given by a customer has finally been paid by her boss who said the money was a “Christmas gift”.

Emily Bauer, a waitress at the Redhook Seafood and Bar in San Antonio, Texas, was astonished when a customer left her a $2,000 tip during her shift.

Yet at the end of her waitressing shift, on November 29, she was told by bosses that the money was too high to process. Therefore, she didn’t receive her tip.

On the customer’s bill, which totalled to $69.01, they had written: “Merry Christmas” and “Keep working hard!”.

Along with the $2,000 tip, this meant the final amount totalled to $2,061.01.

However, Emily was initially told that it wouldn’t be possible for her to be given the $2,000 tip, as it was too high an amount to process.

This resulted in the restaurant receiving social media backlash, which meant the business was left with no choice but to explain the problem.

On Facebook, the company wrote: “We tried multiple times, Emily tried, managers tried and the [restaurant] owner called Visa to ask what we can do.

“Visa could not force a $2,000 tip on his card. It was invalid, then later declined. We can not charge a card $500 four times. It’s impossible and it’s fraud.

“Please stop harassing our company. We did not steal anything from Emily or any of our employees.”

Redhook Seafood and Bar also thanked its loyal customers for sticking by its side throughout difficult times.

The man who left the tip has remained a mystery. However, he did call up the restaurant to make sure that Emily had received her tip.

The general manager who spoke with the customer was unable to write down any of the guy’s information.

He told KENS5: “I told him to come back to the store because we were unable to process the payment.

“He said, ‘OK’ and immediately hung up before I could say anything.”

On Thursday, restaurant owner John Cheng announced that he would be giving Emily the $2,000 tip out of his own money instead.

He told KENS5: “It’s Christmas time and everyone is struggling.

“I’m ready to give it to her as a Christmas gift.”

Emily told the news outlet she was overjoyed by the news, commenting: “The fact that the owner of my job is willing to give it to me, even though it wasn’t his mess-up, I can’t thank him enough for that.”
