First Trailer For The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run Is Out And It Features Keanu Reeves!

It’s been an excellent week for the big kids among us. Earlier in the week, the first look trailer for Scoob! was released, giving us the origin story that none of us knew we needed. Well, it’s time to double up on your childhood nostalgia folks, because the brand new trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run has just been released!

Yes, that’s right. They’re bringing SpongeBob back into our lives and back, once again, to the big screen.

You may remember that back in 2004, Nickelodeon released the animated hit The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, and more recently, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, back in 2015 and now, 15 years on from the original our favourite sponge and starfish are reuniting once again.

This time around though, SpongeBob has had a makeover and is appearing for the first time ever in CGI. And surprisingly, people actually seem to be liking this new CGI look.

The synopsis states that: “After SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.”

It’s has been confirmed that the film will be a prequel to the hit television series and will feature the same original voice cast as the show. Yet there’s one absolutely bonkers addition in the form of Keanu Reeves. Yep, you read right. Keanu Reeves…

Nope, seriously, Keanu Reeves will genuinely be joining the cast of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run, playing the role of a wise tumbleweed.

And as you can imagine, people are going absolutely insane following the news!
