The TV host’s real name is RuPaul Andre Charles.
His mother bestowed upon him the name ‘Ru’ in recognition of his Louisana heritage. It draws inspiration from ‘roux’, the foundational element in gumbo and various Creole stews and soups.
While many drag queens opt to go by a stage name, RuPaul’s drag name is simply RuPaul.
