Lee Jung-jae, 51, is a South Korean actor and filmmaker. Before reaching international fame as Seong Gi-hun, he worked as a successful fashion model in the 1990s.
He then made his inroads into the world of acting, with his breakout role in 1998’s award-winning film An Affair by E-J Yong, per IMDb.
Lee Jung-jae plays Seong Gi-hun in Squid Game, a former gambling addict who is facing crippling debts from loan sharks before he participates in and ultimately wins Squid Game.
Opening up about playing the role, the actor told The Guardian: “…we had to express the experiences of these characters being pushed to those extremes.
“Doing that? It was terrible. The more beautiful the game set was, and the more childish and fun it seemed, the more horrific it was for the characters, and therefore us as actors.”
