Whoopi Goldberg, who recently faced a backlash for her comments about the Holocaust, is demanding an ‘apology’ from the Royal Family over Britain’s historic involvement in the slave trade.

The 66-year-old recently appeared on an episode of The View and said people shouldn’t ‘forget’ the monarchy’s past.

She explained: “Britain ran ram shod over India for years… Let us not forget, when we talk about what needs to happen, all the folks that need to apologise.

“Listen, this is not new. I suspect Charles, when he was in Barbados, had some idea because he went on and apologised as he was releasing the hold that Britain has.

“So perhaps somebody is listening, and it’s the new group of folks – I don’t know if it’s Charles, William, but one of them.”

The star’s comments come during Prince William’s Carribean tour, during which he’s expressed his ‘profound sorrow’ at the slave trade.

However, in the speech, he reportedly failed to mention how the Royal Family was also involved in the historic tragedy.

In his declamation, the Duke of Cambridge apparently stated: “I strongly agree with my father, the Prince of Wales, who said in Barbados last year that the appalling atrocity of slavery forever stains our history.

“I want to express my profound sorrow. Slavery was abhorrent. And it should never have happened. While the pain runs deep, Jamaica continues to forge its future with determination, courage and fortitude.

“The strength and shared sense of purpose of the Jamaican people, represented in your flag and motto, celebrate an invincible spirit.”

Elsewhere on his tour, Prince William also quoted his grandmother, The Queen, and her 1994 address to the Belize parliament.

He reportedly told the audience: “She said ‘I am proud to associate myself with your determination that social justice and personal freedom should flourish under the rule of law’.

“‘It is always dangerous, however, to be complacent and to assume that democratic values will look after themselves.

“‘Vigilance in protecting them is needed’.”
