Will Smith appeared to ‘threaten’ a Spanish TV host who complimented Jada Pinkett Smith in a clip that has resurfaced after he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars over a joke he made about her.

The footage, which is from 2010, shows the 53-year-old telling TV host Pablo Motos to be ‘careful what he says to his wife’.

They were appearing on the El Hormiguero show at the time, alongside their son, Jayden.

Speaking in Spanish, the host told Pinkett Smith it was no surprise she was successful because she was ‘beautiful on the outside and inside’.

In response, Smith said: “Pablo, be careful with the words you use for my wife, okay!”

He then stretched his neck towards the presenter, gesturing that he would be carefully listening, before jokingly adding: “Very good, very good.”

It comes as Smith was handed a 10-year ban from the Oscars for his public outburst during the 94th ceremony last month.

In a statement announcing the ban, the Academy said: “The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year.

“However, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behaviour we saw Mr Smith exhibit on stage.”

The organisation then apologised for ‘not addressing it properly,’ adding: “During our telecast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room.

“For this, we are sorry. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short – unprepared for the unprecedented.”

In response, Smith released a statement to The Washington Post, saying: “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”
