In the video, an array of fruit and veg can be seen neatly stacked up inside the device. She then adds vinegar to the detergent compartment and pops them on a cycle.

So far, the woman’s post has garnered a whopping 1.3million views and hundreds have taken to the comments, where they’ve been divided on the so-called ‘hack’.

One commented: “I don’t know, seems like a lot of bacteria.”

Another added: “I literally don’t know why this would be necessary.”

“Hell no! They would get bruised from the jets,” a third pointed out.

Another weighed in, commenting: “Best not do that. The small fruits will be everywhere.”

“I feel like this is a mockery of 2020 so far. I get it. I feel it,” a fifth joked.

Another added: “This will 1: Ruin your dishwasher 2: Ruin your produce and 3: Kill the environment.”

During the Covid pandemic, many people have gone to extra lengths to make sure everything is clean in their homes.

However, CSIRO Agriculture and Food representative Cathy Moir has said that a ‘good rinse’ will simply do for fruit and veg.

She told ABC: “Some people can go to extremes, but I tend to take a more practical approach and recommend a good rinse.

“When you rinse your food, what you are doing is reducing the dose [of certain pathogens] and therefore reducing the risk of becoming ill.”
