A woman has sparked a debate online by saying men should never split the bill on a date.

Relationship expert Nelly recently took to TikTok to give her followers tips on what to do when the (sometimes awkward) situation arises at the end of a meal.

In the clip, which has now been viewed over 85,000 times, the guru says: “Men should never let a woman pay for a first date.

“If you’re asking a girl out and then going Dutch, it just shows you’re cheap, you weren’t raised right, you’re not chivalrous and you’re dating outside your price range.” Ouch…

The TikToker then advises men who are a bit strapped for cash to look at things to do within their price range.

“Instead of trying to flex at a nice dinner, you’re better off taking her on a picnic in the park,” Nelly advised.

Creating even more controversy, the expert said that no matter how ‘progressive’ the woman is, she always minds if the bill has to be split.

She explained: “It’s not because they can’t afford it but because it shows us your character.

“If you’re a girl and you’re paying for your first date, I’m here to tell you that he ain’t it sis.”

Unsurprisingly, not everybody agreed with her thought process.

One man fumed: “Strong and independent until the bills come. All I see here is a spoiled brat who now thinks everyone should cater to them.”

“Women: If he doesn’t pay he’s cheap. Also women: Don’t judge us for expecting the man to pay. We’re not gold-diggers,” a second remarked.

However, some viewers did agree with Nelly and said that the man should pay the bill, especially on the first date.

One TikToker said: “I don’t mind paying but if I pay on the first there won’t be a second. We can be friends…”
