You can now stay in the middle of a giraffe sanctuary in Nairobi, Kenya, appropriately titled Giraffe Manor and they’ll even join you for breakfast!
If you’re looking for an extraordinary travelling experience than look no further than Giraffe Manor, where you will encounter majestic, longnecked animals who live in the middle of 12 acres of private land, surrounded by 140 acres of indigenous forests.
Owned by Safari Collection, the exclusive boutique hotel is being dubbed one of the most Instagrammable places in the world thanks to the herd of giraffes that visit the hotel morning, noon and night.
Guests are pleasantly greeted to a host of giraffes popping their heads through the hotel windows each morning – which may also be because breakfast is being served!
Although they may look innocent, hotel staff warn that the giraffes love to be cheeky and often stick out their 20-inch long tongues in order to scoop up a snack. However, it is advised by staff to only feed them dried grass pellets, which are on hand for anyone wanting to interact with the giraffes.
It’s not just breakfast time that keeps the animals curious, it’s also the afternoon tea which is served later on in the day. Available between 5 pm and 6 pm, the afternoon tea is often observed by the giraffes.
The manor hotel encourages guests to give the animals a smooch – which depends if you’re brave enough that is!
If interested, the website reads: ‘Be brave and give a ‘giraffe kiss’ a go by offering a pellet between your lips – giraffe saliva contains antiseptic properties.’
Guests can also visit the Giraffe Centre where visitors can be enlightened to all that there is to learn about the beautiful creature. The centre provides opportunities for guests to head over to the feeding platform where guests can interact further with the giraffes and feed them their lunch.
It isn’t just the giraffes that keep the guests captivated, it’s also the hotel which people find absolutely breathtaking.
Built in 1932, the hotel provides six bedrooms for guests, which are named: Betty, Daisy, Jock, Lynn, Marlon and the Karen Blixen Suite.
Besides the original manor house sits the Garden Manor which is where a further six bedrooms are located: Salma, Edd, Arlene, Helen, Kelly and the Finch Hatton Suite.
Each of the rooms is tastefully decorated in antique, chic furniture and have art deco vibe bathrooms.
In the hotel’s Orchid House, any guests looking for a spot of romance can indulge in the spa and candlelit dinner which follows. This hidden gem is available for guests to book in advance, where they are offered a private dining experience unlike any other.
Starting at £680 per person per night (all-inclusive), this is most likely a once in a lifetime splurge which is definitely worth it!
This rate does include arrival/departure transfers, transportation around the Karen & Langata suburb areas, all meals, house wines, house soft drinks, house beers, house spirits, laundry, WiFi, entrance to the AFEW Giraffe Centre, Orchid House, boules and croquet.
