Anya Taylor-Joy fans have rushed to show sympathy for the star after hearing her heartbreaking response to a question about her eyes.
The Hollywood actress achieved international recognition for playing Beth Harmon in the Netflix period miniseries The Queen’s Gambit.
She’s since starred in The Menu, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Furiousa: A Mad Max Saga.
But before finding worldwide fame, Taylor-Joy was questioned about her appearance, leading fans to share praise for her while expressing outrage over the comment.
After learning of the surfaced interview, one fan wrote: “I can’t see anything wrong with her eyes. She’s absolutely gorgeous.”
In agreement, a second said: “She’s got it all, no need to be self-conscious.”
“She is a beautiful young lady and a talented actress,” enthused a third.
Others took to the comments and called out the reporter’s question, with one person commenting: “This is crazy! I have no idea why someone would even make this an issue. She’s gorgeous!”
“Reporters ask some of the dumbest questions,” added another.
Someone else said: “We should all try to be a little more kind.”
Before diving into the controversial interview question, it’s worth pointing out that Taylor-Joy was declared ‘the most beautiful woman in the world’ according to the Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi.
The Golden Ratio is a mathematical equation that some say can be used to assess a person’s attractiveness.
“The distance between the eyes should be around 1.618 times that width. Similarly, when you look at the relationship between the mouth’s width and the span between the eyes and the mouth, the same proportion – 1.618 to 1 – should ideally emerge,” the Centre for Surgery explains.
Out of all the Hollywood stars, Taylor-Joy’s eyes, noses, lips, chin, jaw, and facial are said to be the closest to this beauty standard.
Dr. De Silva, who runs the Centre For Advanced Facial Cosmetic And Plastic Surgery in London, said (per MailOnline): “Anya Taylor-Joy had the highest overall reading for the positioning of her eyes, with a score of 98.9 percent, which is only 1.1 percent away from being the perfect shape.
“Anya also had the highest score for her eyebrows and was close to the top in almost every category apart from her lips.”
Taylor-Joy was asked the uncomfortable question about her eyes in a 2016 interview with W Magazine.
The reporter questioned the actress, who was just 20 at the time, on whether she felt ‘self-conscious’ about her ‘far apart’ eyes.
In response, Taylor-Joy revealed that she stayed away from mirrors after receiving negative social media comments.
The Dune: Part Two star said: “I can definitely remember when Facebook was a thing and I was never aware that my eyes were far apart and then someone tagged me in a picture with a fish and they were like, ‘This is you ’cause your eyes are like here.’
“And I was really upset about it and I didn’t enjoy it and I kind of stopped looking in mirrors for a very long time.
“I still don’t really spend a lot of time in front of mirrors because I don’t really have to deal with my face. Unfortunately, y’all do.”
Taylor-Joy added she’s ‘growing into’ herself and feels ‘less awkward’ about her appearance now.
