Barry Humphries’ cause of death has been confirmed.
Humphries, 89, was an Australian actor and comedian who was best known for his stage and TV characters Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson.
Biographer Anne Pender described him as not only ‘the most significant theatrical figure of our time … [but] the most significant comedian to emerge since Charlie Chaplin’.
Tragically, Humphries passed away last week.

He reportedly died on Saturday at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney.
Humphries’ health problems began in February when he tripped over a rug while reaching for a book, reports MailOnline.
This incident led to the comedian being hospitalised for hip surgery.
Heartbreakingly, the star was readmitted to the hospital following post-surgery complications.
Prior to his passing, the 89-year-old had brushed aside any concerns for his health by sharing a positive statement with friends and fans.
It read: “Barry would like to thank everybody for the support and best wishes he has received but he would like more and more.”

His wife, Elizabeth Spender, added that he was ‘doing fine’.
While Humphries was being ‘kept comfortable’ in the hospital, his condition saddeningly worsened and he passed away.
A representative confirmed his death in a statement.
It read: “He was completely himself until the very end, never losing his brilliant mind, his unique wit and generosity of spirit.
“With over 70 years on the stage, he was an entertainer to his core, touring up until the last year of his life and planning more shows that will sadly never be.
“His audiences were precious to him, and he never took them for granted.
“Although he may be best remembered for his work in theatre, he was a painter, author, poet, and a collector and lover of art in all its forms.”
It added: “He was also a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a friend and confidant to many. His passing leaves a void in so many lives.
“The characters he created, which brought laughter to millions, will live on.”
Humphries’ Dame Edna is arguably Australia’s most famous comedy figure, with her lilac hair, extravagant spectacles and iconic greeting of ‘Hello possums!’.
The comedian also played Sir Les Patterson, an uncouth and drunken character.

While his most subtle character was Sandy Stone, an elderly gentleman.
Many celebrities have taken to social media and paid tribute to the star, including fellow funnyman Ricky Gervais.
The After Life star writes: “Farewell, Barry Humphries, you comedy genius.”
Actor and comedian Rob Brydon says: “RIP Barry Humphries. A true great who inspired me immeasurably.
“It was a delight to call him my friend.
“I’ve been in Australia and was with him only 3 days ago. He was, as ever, making me laugh. His talent shone until the very end.”
Humphries, who has been married four times, is survived by his wife and four children.
