Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s child has debuted their new name.
Affleck, 52, and Garner, also aged 52, have been co-parenting their three children since they announced their divorce in 2015.
Together, they have worked hard to keep their kids out of the spotlight and give them as normal a life as possible.
But recently, it emerged that their middle child had changed their name.
Affleck and Garner made their first public appearance as a couple in 2004 and just under a year later, they tied the knot and announced they were expecting.
Over the years, the former couple welcomed three children and settled into parenthood.
Yet in 2015, their marriage ended with the pair releasing a joint statement.
It read: “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce.
“We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.
“This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”
While navigating their divorce, Affleck and Garner continued to spend time together for their family.
In an interview with People magazine, Affleck said he and Garner would always be in each other’s lives.
“When you have children with somebody you’re connected to them forever,” he explained. “And I’m very lucky she is the mother of my children. I’m very grateful and respectful of her.
“Our marriage didn’t work, and that’s difficult. Both of us really believe that it’s important for kids to see their parents respect one another and get along, whether they’re together or not.”
More recently the pair opened up about parenting and how their kids handle their stardom.
Chatting to The Hollywood Reporter, Garner said: “When they were smaller and there were things out there that were shocking, my request to them was always, ‘Let dad and I talk you through whatever it is.’
“I’d tell them, ‘If you see an image on the front of a magazine, I’ll look at it with you and we’ll process all the scary feelings that come up together.'”
Echoing this, Affleck told the Los Angeles Times: “I got to a place where public perception was so different from who I am that I just stopped reading and stopped caring. But then, as my kids got older and started seeing the internet themselves, that’s the difficult part.
“Even the ‘Sad Affleck’ meme – that was funny to me. I mean, there’s nobody who hasn’t felt that way at a junket. But then my kids see it and I think, ‘Oh, are they going to think their dad is fundamentally sad or they have to worry about me?’ That’s really tough.”
Affleck and Garner share Violet, 18, Fin (formerly Seraphina Rose), 15, and Samuel, 12.
Fin revealed their name change at their grandfather’s memorial service in April 2024, which streamed live on Facebook. The service was for Garner’s father, William Jack Garner, who died at age 85.
The teenager attended the memorial wearing a black suit and sporting a buzzcut hairstyle.
Speaking from the pulpit, they introduced themselves, saying: “Hello my name is Fin Affleck,” before reading the Bible verse: “Better is a little with righteousness, than a large income with injustice.”
Many eagle-eyed Ben Affleck fans have taken to social media and pointed out that Fin’s name has been known since January 2023, when they were photographed with their name embroidered on their backpack, as per PinkNews.
