Brett Favre has shared some heartbreaking details following the tragic death of country music legend Toby Keith. 

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Keith had passed away aged 62.

Born Toby Keith Covel, the country musician had enjoyed a long and prolific career in the industry.

He’s best known for songs like ‘Should’ve Been a Cowboy’, ‘How Do You Like Me Now?!’ and ‘Don’t Let The Old Man In’.

But tragically, this week Keith’s family announced that the singer has passed away.

Following the news, devastated fans have taken to social media and been left heartbroken by his final, haunting Instagram post.

And now, even more harrowing details have emerged about Keith’s untimely death.

The ‘Red Cup Solo’ singer’s passing was announced in a heartwrenching statement which reads: “Toby Keith passed away peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family.

“He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

Tributes from fans have flooded onto X (formerly known as Twitter), with one person penning: “Rest in peace and fly with the angels Toby.”

Another adds: “The world has lost a legend today.”

“Always loved him and I remember when he talked about his health, I guess my heart thought he’d beat this! Respect and love to one hell of a human!” says a third.

Somebody else writes: “We lost one of the best! USA is sad today.”

While others have taken to his Instagram and shared their devastation at his final post, with one writing: “I couldn’t imagine being in that crowd and waking up the next day realising you just saw him for the last time… devastating.”

Another adds: “The people watching this had no idea how lucky they were to be there…”

“It’s sad that it was his last show and nobody knew,” pens a third.

Keith had shared a video of himself waving to his adoring fans from the stage, with the caption: “And that’s a wrap on the weekend, y’all. Back to it.”

Following his passing, it’s been confirmed that Keith’s battle with stomach cancer is what led to his death, as per Today.

In 2022, Keith said: “I’ve spent the last six months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover, and relax.

“I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.”

“It’s a little bit of a roller coaster,” Keith continued to E! News. “You get good days and, you know, you’re up and down, up and down. It’s always zero to 60 and 60 to zero, but I feel good today.”

And today, Brett Favre has opened up with some heartbreaking details about his longtime friend’s final days.

“I think in the end, he was just tired,” Favre tells TMZ Sports. “He did say that to me when we had our conversation. He said, ‘Brett, whatever happens, I’m OK with it’.”

“He handled it with grace and faith and family,” the former NFL star concludes. “And stood up to the cancer about as good as you can.”
