Brooklyn Nine-Nine Star Andre Braugher Has Died

Andre Braugher Dead: The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star has tragically died aged 61.

Andre Braugher has sadly died aged 61.

The Emmy award-winning actor was best known for his role as fan favourite character Captain Raymond Holt in the critically acclaimed sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Throughout his 34-year acting career, he appeared in numerous film and TV series such as Glory, City of Angels and Primal Fear.

Tragically, it has been confirmed that Braugher has passed away.

Braugher’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed the saddening news of his death to Variety on December 12, revealing he had been battling a ‘brief illness’.

His Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star, Terry Crews, paid tribute to Braugher in an Instagram post where he described him as an ‘irreplaceable talent’.

He wrote: “Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honoured to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent.

“This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship.

“[My] deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like. Rest In Peace, Andre. I love you, man.”

Fellow Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Chelsea Peretti also paid her respects by sharing a photo of Braugher on Instagram, alongside the caption: “Will miss your dulcet tones. Forever lucky to have gone on such a journey with you. Ringside seat.

“You were so funny to me and the epitome of still waters run deep. I will always cherish our conversations, often with me hanging in your doorway barring your exit, and the insane opportunity to be your sidekick.”

Marc Evan Jackson, who played Holt’s husband Kevin on the show, posted a photo of the pair of them, writing: “O Captain. My Captain.”

Fans of the show have taken to social media to pay tribute to the Men of a Certain Age star.

“RIP to TV’s favourite captain,” pens one person.

Someone else adds: “So sad. He brought my whole family endless laughs on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The world is a colder place without him. RIP Andre.”

A third shares: “One of the best things watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine was looking forward to captain Holt’s sassy comebacks and intellectual jokes every episode thank you for that Andre Braugher may you rest in peace.”

“Andre Braugher was an absolute treasure as Captain Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. RIP,” pens another fan.

Born in Chicago in 1962, Braugher won a scholarship to Stanford before attending the Julliard Performing Arts Conservatory in New York.

His break-out role was in the 1989 Civil War film Glory – which featured several Hollywood stars including, Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington.

Braugher would win an Emmy in 1998 for his portrayal of Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life On The Street – where he met his wife Ami Brabson.

Throughout his career, Braugher starred in numerous projects but it was his work as Captain Holt in the Golden Globe-winning comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine that saw him shoot to superstardom.

Known for his deadpan humour, sassy remarks and his love for his dog, the character quickly became a fan favourite and earned him four more Emmy nominations.

The actor had recently been cast as the male lead in the Netflix murder mystery The Residence, which is set at the White House, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Braugher is survived by his wife and their three sons Michael, Isaiah and John Wesley, his brother Charles Jennings and their mother Sally Braugher.
