Ana Obregón Sparks Outrage After She Had A Surrogate Baby With Son’s Sperm
A TV star has sparked outrage after having a surrogate baby using her son’s sperm.
The A-Team actress Ana Obregón, 68, shocked her home nation of Spain after announcing that she would be welcoming a child via surrogacy.
It’s caused an uproar – since surrogacy is illegal in the country – with many politicians and those working in the media referring to it as ‘womb renting’.
This hasn’t stopped Obregón, who went to Miami in the US to use a surrogate mother and welcomed a baby girl called Ann Sandra.
Find out more about the surrogacy that is causing an uproar below…
Ann is Obregón’s biological granddaughter as she used the sperm from her son Aless Lequio García – who passed away in 2020 – to have the child.
He was 27 years old when he died after a battle with cancer.
Speaking to the Spanish outlet ¡Hola!, she revealed that it was her son’s dying wish to welcome a child into the world.

“This girl is not my daughter, but rather my granddaughter,” Obregón told the publisher.
“He communicated this to his father and I, a week before he died.
“It’s called a holographic testament that’s produced when a person, in front of witnesses, expresses their last wishes.”
In an Instagram post, Obregón shared her ¡Hola! magazine cover alongside an emotional message dedicated to her late son.

“My Aless, I swore I would save you from cancer and I failed you. I promised you I’d bring your daughter into the world and here she is in my arms,” she penned.
“I swear I will take care of her with the infinite love I have to give and you will help me from heaven.
“You are the love of my life in heaven and your daughter is the love of my life on earth.”

Before starting his treatment for cancer, he was encouraged by doctors to preserve some samples of his sperm – which he did – and they have been stored in a lab in New York ever since.
Obregón began the surrogacy process the day her son died and only told her sisters about it before doing an exclusive interview with ¡Hola! – in which she announced the news to the world.
The outlet has also reported that the baby was born on March 20 and was conceived last June, when García would have turned 30.
However, since going public with the news, the actress has been met with extreme scrutiny from politicians and those in the media.
Equality Minister Irene Montero, who represents the United We Can coalition partner addressed it ‘as a form of violence against women’.
Others have slammed her by claiming that Obregón has done this for her own financial benefit.

Media personality Verónica Fumanal said on Spanish radio: “You benefit financially from this and you deprive this creature that’s just days old of the only thing she has – her privacy, her right to privacy.”
However, some have come to defend the actress with Defence Minister, Margarita Robles, instead suggesting that the public should hesitate before judging Obregón’s decision.
She also added that it was a separate question to consider whether the law had been broken or not since the full facts are not available.
