The Last Of Us Star Bella Ramsey Comes Out As Gender Fluid
Bella Ramsey has come out as gender fluid.
Ramsey, 19, stars in the highly anticipated new TV series, The Last of Us, as teenager Ellie.
The show is based on the 2013 action-adventure video game that explores the post-apocalyptic United States.
Ahead of its debut, Ramsey sat down with The New York Times and opened up about their new role, as well as their identity.

The young actor, who first shot to fame in Game of Thrones, revealed to the publication that they find it ‘exciting’ when someone refers to them as ‘he’.
Ramsey explains: “I guess my gender has always been very fluid.
“Someone would call me ‘she’ or ‘her’ and I wouldn’t think about it, but I knew that if someone called me ‘he’ it was a bit exciting.”
Ramsey goes on to say that despite this, they ‘couldn’t care less’ whether people refer to them by ‘she’ or ‘he’.
They continue: “I’m very much just a person.
“Being gendered isn’t something that I particularly like, but in terms of pronouns, I really couldn’t care less.”

Reacting to Ramsey’s incredibly candid interview, their fans are taking to Twitter and praising them for their ‘bravery’.
Praising the star, one fan tweets: “Bella Ramsey is very brave for coming out as gender fluid.”
Another adds: “The biggest congratulations possible to Bella Ramsey for coming out as gender fluid. The bravery that took was IMMENSE.”
“The people love to see,” a third says. “Keep kicking a** @BellaRamsey.”
Alongside a love heart emoji, someone else comments: “Bella Ramsey saying their gender is fluid and they’re just a person.”
Elsewhere in their interview, Ramsey acknowledges the backlash they’re receiving over their casting in The Last of Us.
Many fans of the video game have taken to social media and questioned the casting, arguing that Ramsey doesn’t resemble the character.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever had a negative reaction to something,” the actor says.

“There would be times I’d find it funny. Then I’d get to the end of a 10-minute scrolling session, put my phone down and realise maybe that was a bad idea.”
Ramsey goes on to say that they have now ‘accepted’ they were meant for the role, and know they’re a ‘good actor’.
The Last of Us is airing exclusively on Sky Atlantic in the UK from 2 am on Mondays.
US viewers will be able to watch The Last of Us exclusively on HBO at 9 pm ET/PT every Sunday.
