Dolly Parton has issued an emotional health update with fans after revealing she would be canceling her Las Vegas residency later this year.

The country music icon has faced a number of issues with her health in recent months, announcing last year she would be pushing back the string of shows at The Colosseum Theatre at Caesars Palace from December 2025 to September 2026.

However, she has now informed fans the shows will not be going ahead after all, as she continues to deal with the ongoing setbacks regarding her wellbeing.

Dolly’s sister asks fans to pray for her

The news comes after her sister Freida Parton sparked panic in October last year, when she asked fans to pray for her big sister.

“Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly,” she said at the time. “Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately.”

Freida added: “I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been led to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me.”

On Monday, May 4, Dolly took to social media to share ‘some good news and a little bad news,’ with fans and how it will impact her career going forward, after announcing she would be canceling her Las Vegas residency.

“I’m here to give you an update on a few things going on in my life,” she said in a video recording to fans.

“First, it is concerning my health. And I have some good news and a little bad news. But the good news is, I’m responding really well to meds and treatments and I’m improving every day.”

However, Dolly, who had originally pushed back her residency due to ongoing health issues, has revealed she’s still not able to perform at the level she sees fit.

She continued: “It’s going to take me a little while before I’m up to stage-performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit swimmy-headed, as my grandma used to say.

“And of course I can’t be dizzy, carrying around banjos, guitars, and such on five-inch heels… not to mention all those heavy rhinestone outfits, the big hair, my big personality.”

In a bid to explain her journey back to health to fans, Dolly described herself as an ‘old classic car,’ that will soon be ‘better than ever.’

“Once restored it can be better than ever, but when they raised the hood on this old antique they realized that I need to rebuild my engine, that my transmission is slipping, my oil pan is leaking, and my muffler is busted, and my shocks and pistons need to be replaced,” she said.

“Because you know, as well as I know, that I can’t lose my spark. I know I’m still crazy but they didn’t mention nothing about my mental health.”

While the 80-year-old didn’t go into too much specific detail, she did reveal she’s always had issues with kidney stones, which caused her ‘immune system and digestive system’ to get ‘all out of whack.’

“They’re working real hard on rebuilding and strengthening those,” she said, before noting the fact she was approaching the topic with humor in a bid to keep ‘everything light and airy.’

“They say that a happy heart is like good medicine. You think I might be over medicating myself right now? But the truth is, I am still working,” Dolly continued.

“I still do videos, I still record, I run up and down to Dollywood every now and then. And I’m working hard on getting my museum and my hotel open in Nashville later this year.

“And I am spending a lot of time writing and reworking on my Broadway musical. It’s called Dolly, a true original musical. And that’s gonna be opening later in New York this fall or early winter.”

She concluded her message by apologising to fans who had tickets for her Las Vegas show, and encouraged them still to make the trip and enjoy themselves.

Emotional fans react to Dolly’s update

Since making the announcement on social media, emotional fans have shared heartfelt messages with the country star, with one saying she manages to share bad news ‘like it’s a warm hug.’

“Oh Dolly, you always know how to deliver bad news in a way that feels like a warm hug, even when it makes us all cry,” they wrore.

“Your light and love is a magic unlike anything else in the world. You are my favorite person, sending you my prayers and hope you feel better soon.”

Another comment: “She tries to make us laugh so not scare us,” while a third wrote: “This feels like a parent telling you terrible news to protect you.”
