Forrest Gump Actor Gary Sinise’s Son Mac Has Died Aged 33
Gary Sinise’s son Mac has tragically died aged just 33.
Alongside his prolific acting career, you may know Sinise as a director, producer, musician, and humanitarian.
His biggest role was as Lieutenant Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump (1994), but Sinise also appeared in Apollo 13 (1995), Ransom (1996), The Green Mile (1999), and Impostor (2001).
In recent years, his work has been more focused on the Gary Sinise Foundation, a charity and veterans service organisation for wounded military veterans.
And Sinise’s son, McCanna Anthony Sinise, worked at this same charity alongside his father.
But devastatingly, it’s now been announced that Mac Sinise has passed away aged just 33.

Born in 1990, Mac was the son of Gary and his wife, actress Moira Harris. He has two sisters, Sophie and Ella.
In 2018, the family was rocked with news that Harris had been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.
She recovered and remains cancer-free to this day.
Mac was a musician, graduating from the University of Southern California after studying songwriting and composition on top of his drumming.
Just before his death, at the beginning of this year, Mac released his only album, ‘Resurrection & Revival’, alongside other musical collaborators.
But now, Gary Sinise has announced the tragic passing of his beloved son.
“Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can. As parents, it is so difficult losing a child,” Sinise writes in a statement on his charity’s page.
“My heart goes out to all who have suffered a similar loss, and to anyone who has lost a loved one. We’ve all experienced it in some way.
“Over the years I have met so many families of our fallen heroes. It’s heartbreaking, and it’s just damn hard.”
The statement continues: “In sharing our story, we hope to shine a little bit of light on what has been a difficult time for us as Mac was truly a light for all of us.
“Even with one setback after another, he never stopped living and learning, creating, and giving, and loving. He loved all our family.
“His wonderful sisters, Sophie and Ella and their children, and while I worked hard to manage the day-to-day medical care, his beautiful mother Moira was his constant companion. He loved her so.
“There are so many friends he loved and who loved him.”

Sinise confirms that Mac had been diagnosed with a ‘very rare cancer’ known as Chordoma in August 2018.
As per Macmillan: “Chordoma is a type of primary bone cancer (also called bone sarcoma). Sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in the supporting tissues of the body. Supporting tissues include bone, cartilage, tendons, fat and muscle.”
Mac was diagnosed just two months after his mother’s cancer diagnosis.
His disease ‘disabled him more and more as time went on’.
“Our family’s cancer fight lasted for 5 ½ years, and it became more and more challenging as time went on. While our hearts ache at missing him, we are comforted in knowing that Mac is no longer struggling, and inspired and moved by how he managed it,” Sinise concludes.
“He fought an uphill battle against a cancer that has no cure, but he never quit trying.”
