Gwen Stefani Explains Why She Doesn’t Seem To Age
Gwen Stefani is certainly ageing like a fine wine, and luckily for us, she has shared all the secrets as to exactly why that is.
As the co-founder, lead singer, and chief songwriter of No Doubt, Stefani helped create some of the biggest hits of the ’90s and early 2000s, including Don’t Speak and Just a Girl.
Beyond her success with the band, she’s enjoyed an impressive solo career, scoring six number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her ventures extend beyond music, too. Stefani launched her beauty brand GXVE (pronounced ‘give’), giving fans the chance to recreate her signature ‘bold and expressive’ makeup looks.
For years, fans have been curious about how the Rich Girl star continues to look just as radiant as she did at the beginning of her career.
Now, she’s sharing the habits and beauty secrets she credits for maintaining her youthful appearance.
The 56-year-old recently discussed her skincare and wellness routine, revealing several simple practices that anyone can incorporate into their daily life.
The beauty habits she swears by
One of Stefani’s biggest skincare priorities is staying hydrated. Despite her seemingly flawless complexion, she insists the secret isn’t complicated, explaining that her ‘skincare secret is hydration.’
Speaking to LVR magazine about her beauty brand, the singer said: “It helps give your skin a youthful, moist glow.
“I just want to look as good as I can at any age, like we all do, and share that quality makeup truly does make a big difference in how you feel. The magic is in the makeup.”
Another beauty trick Stefani regularly relies on is overlining her lips.
Known for her iconic red lipstick, the ‘Cool’ singer says slightly overdrawing the lips creates a fuller and more youthful appearance.
“When you overdraw the top lip like that, you just get this really pouty [look],” Stefani told Glamour. “You see people hacking it all the time and it works.”

Why skincare consistency matters
While Stefani embraces certain makeup techniques, there’s one skincare mistake she avoids at all costs.
Speaking with Forbes, she explained: “At bedtime, I always take off my makeup and put moisturizer on.”
Although removing makeup before bed seems like an obvious step, many people still skip it. Leaving makeup on overnight can contribute to clogged pores, dryness, dullness, puffy eyes, and irritated skin.
Dr. Ash Labib, medical director at AL Aesthetics, explained to Women’s Health: “When makeup is left on at night, it penetrates the sub-layers of the dermis.”
Stefani admitted that maintaining a skincare routine wasn’t always easy during her younger years, especially while touring.
In an interview with Elle, she recalled: “The one thing that I have really changed is trying to get all the makeup off. It was hard when I was younger because I was always on a tour bus, literally washing my face with bottled water, inside a bus. But the key is to keep it clean at night. Let your face breathe.”
The singer also prefers not to overcomplicate things.
She told Forbes that her “skincare is pretty simple,” and that her morning routine consists of “a prayer, brushing my teeth and moisturizing.”
She added: “I keep my routine simple and just embrace it and let it be.”
Protecting skin from the sun
Another major factor in Stefani’s approach to aging well is avoiding excessive sun exposure.
She revealed that she gave up sunbathing in her twenties and believes it’s one piece of advice she wishes she could pass on to her younger self.
Reflecting on sun damage, she told Elle: “Later in life, you’re like ‘What is that?!’ and it turns out it’s from the sun and you’re like, ‘Oh why did I do that to myself?’”
Whether or not wrinkles are a concern, experts agree that daily sunscreen use is one of the most important skincare habits.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, sunscreen helps “safeguard your skin against sun damage and skin cancer.”
Meanwhile, Johns Hopkins Medicine recommends choosing a sunscreen with “an SPF of at least 30” and notes that makeup products containing SPF alone don’t provide sufficient protection.
The lifestyle choices behind her glow
Stefani’s healthy lifestyle extends beyond skincare.
She has followed a vegetarian diet since she was 12 years old, although she’s never been afraid to enjoy her favorite comfort foods.
Growing up in an Italian-American household meant plenty of hearty meals around the dinner table.
She told Bon Appétit: “We actually eat lasagna. I don’t know when that happened. My mom makes lasagna and she’ll make one with meat and one with just ricotta cheese. I love that.”
Pizza is another favorite, and she once shared a particularly memorable story involving a massive order.
“After a Chicago show, we literally came home with nine seven-pound Chicago deep-dish pizzas and ate a few on the plane. The next day I had my entire family over and we went to town on the rest of them,” she said.
Exercise also plays a role in her routine.
Despite juggling music, business ventures, and family life, Stefani makes time to stay active.
Speaking to Shape, she said: “I have no magic thing that I do to stay fit. I eat really clean, do my shows, and work out.”
She revealed that she and husband Blake Shelton, 48, enjoy playing tennis together and often hit the gym as a couple.
“I like to do squats and lunges and light weights. I don’t go crazy like I used to. I do just enough to make my body feel good,” Stefani concluded.
So, while many celebrity beauty routines involve expensive treatments and luxury products, Stefani’s approach appears refreshingly straightforward.
