Jenna Ortega has addressed rumors she’s dating Johnny Depp, after months of speculation.

The 23-year-old actress has faced years and years of scrutiny over who she is and isn’t dating, and has found herself at the center of a number of different news stories.

However, the Wednesday star has maintained her desire to keep her private life, well, private, and has previously made the decision to never confirm or deny any of the alleged relationships, until now.

Jenna Ortega’s speculative relationship history

In previous years, she has been linked to her Stuck in the Middle co-star and close friend Isaak Presley, with rumors also suggesting she and Jacob Sartorius were dating after she sppeared in his music video for his song Chapstick.

For a long time, Ortega was believed to be dating Shazam! actor Asher Angel, after being spotted with him at the premiere of the movie Venom in October 2018.

The pair were also photographed wearing his and hers costumes at Just Jared’s 7th Annual Halloween Party, where they dressed up as Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson.

Though they never confirmed their relationship status, it’s widely believed to be the long term relationship Ortega mentioned while appearing on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast.

“I was in a relationship for a couple of years but I stopped it when things got too hectic,” she said. “And it had nothing to do with them. I just couldn’t manage all the things.”

However, one of the most notable and widespread rumors relating to her dating life came last year, when it was reported the 23-year-old was dating none other than 62-year-old Johnny Depp.

Controversy over alleged boyfriend

Most recently, Ortega has been linked to Danish musician Elias Rønnenfelt, who is the lead singer in a punk rock group called Iceage, and also happens have a controversial past.

The 34-year-old musician was previously linked to neo-Nazis and fascists after he made some controversial artwork for his band when he was just 18, which included ‘quasi-fascist imagery’. He’s also accused of ‘curating a festival that included an act with a racist name.’

Since then, he has addressed the controversies, in 2021 telling Pitchfork he and his band have no ‘sympathies or leanings’ towards right wing ideologies.

“When a lot of these allegations came out we were dumbfounded,” he said. “Now I understand that we hold a responsibility on our shoulders to make it clear what we stand for.”

Jenna Ortega responds to Johnny Depp rumors

The Johnny Depp rumors all started when gossip blog Deuxmoi posted that he and Ortega had allegedly been spotted together while working on the Beetlejuice sequel.

Ortega was previously quoted saying: “This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone,” however, she has now indicated this previous quote was false.

n a BuzzFeed interview, she said: “It’s so insane to me. I never spoke on that. I never said anything like that. Articles really do just make up their own quotes, but I thought that that was pretty hilarious.”

She added that the rumor was so widespread that even her co-star Richard E. Grant asked her about it on set.

She recalled: “He came up to me and he just said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny?’ I laughed because I don’t know that person.”

The rumors were so popularized that Depp himself also decided to speak out, with a rep for the Pirates of the Caribbean star telling NME: “Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her.

“He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
