Kat Von D has covered up the tattoo portrait she has of her mum with solid black ink.

Von D, whose real name is Katherine von Drachenberg, is an American tattoo artist and entrepreneur.

She’s best known for starring on the popular TLC reality show LA Ink, which ran for four seasons.

Throughout her career, she’s tattooed a number of celebrities, including Lady Gaga and Demi Lovato.

Von D, 41, has recently taken to Instagram, where she has a staggering 9 million followers, to reveal that she’s covered her back in solid black ink.

Alongside a photo of the design, she writes: “Got so much done today!”

She goes on to give her tattoo artist, Hoode, a special shoutout for tattooing her.

Previously, Von D’s back had numerous inkings, including one of her mum, Sylvia Galeano, the phrase ‘Mi Vida Loca’ and a cartoon of Broadway actress and singer Carmen Miranda.

The star began working with Hoode in December 2020 to cover up the inkings on her arms.

At the time, Von D revealed that she had gotten the blackout design as her previous tattoos no longer meant anything to her.

She explained that when she got the inkings, she had been drinking – she has now been sober for over 13 years.

“Feels so good to finally cover up so many of the tattoos I got back when I used to drink,” the post was captioned.

“Those tattoos meant nothing to me but landmarks in dark times, and I’m so lucky to have the best blackout artist @hoode215 cover them up for me!”

She added: “Now my arm looks so nice and clean, and the portrait of my Father stands out even more.”

Von D also asked her followers to refrain from criticising the blackout design.

“I’ve been tattooing well over two decades and have seen so many tattoos in my lifetime that I personally would never get, yet feel happy for the wearer because it means something to them,” she wrote.

“I don’t think there should be room for criticism when it comes to self-expression, and a tattoo is personal to the person wearing it.

“So thank you ahead of time for being respectful. Much love!”

In June 2022, Von revealed that she was also getting blackout tattoos on her legs, which would cover the area from her upper thigh to her backside – leaving one portrait untouched.

She said at the time: “Before anyone starts criticising, I encourage you to remember that it’s OK not to like or even understand things.

“Trust me, I’ve seen plenty of tattoos I personally would never get. And those differences make this world so much more interesting! So no need to comment any negativity.

“Just know that I absolutely LOVE it, and it’s extremely refreshing for me to see all the garbage, drunken tattoos I had scribbled all over my leg that I got before I became sober, be covered by sleekness and simplicity.”
