Katy Perry’s controversial Dark Horse lyrics have once again been branded ‘disgusting’ after the singer has been accused of sexual assault.

Last week (April 12), Aussie actress Ruby Rose took to social media with bombshell claims, accusing the 41-year-old of assaulting her in a Melbourne nightclub back in 2010.

Rose, who is best known for her role in Orange Is The New Black, made the serious allegation in a comment responding to a Complex Music post on Threads about Justin Bieber’s Coachella set.

The I Kissed A Girl singer had commented on the post criticising Bieber’s performance, prompting Rose to hit back with a brief yet explosive allegation.

“Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne,” she wrote. “Who gives a s**t what she thinks.”

The 40-year-old actress went on to describe the alleged offence in graphic detail, claiming it has taken 16 years to speak out on the incident due to the trauma of the events.

She also claimed she kept quiet because Perry had helped her get a US visa by writing letters of recommendation for her application, adding: “So I kept it a secret, but I did tell y’all she wasn’t a good person.”

Perry’s team have vehemently denied the allegations, calling them ‘categorically false,’ and ‘dangerous, reckless lies,’ claiming Rose has a history of making serious, unfounded allegations against others.

In response, Rose said: “I have never ever made serious public allegations on social media like this.”

However, she is now unable to say any more on the matter after filing a formal complaint with Australian authorities.

Allegations against Katy Perry coming to light

Since Rose made the shocking claims on social media, a number of other allegations regarding Perry’s behaviour have come to light, including serious claims from an actor who appeared in her Teenage Dream music video.

Josh Kloss took to Instagram at the height of the #MeToo movement in 2019, claiming Perry had verbally abused him on set. He also spoke about a specific incident, in which he claims the former American Idol judge pulled his shorts and underwear down to expose his genitals to the crowd without consent, per Sydney Criminal Lawyers

“She pulled my Adidas sweats and underwear out as far as she could to show a couple of her guy friends and the crowd around us my p***s,” he wrote.

“Can you imagine how pathetic and embarrassed I felt?” he added. “I just say this now because our culture is set on proving men of power are perverse. But females with power are just as disgusting.”

Elsewhere, a previously televised incident involving Perry and 19-year-old American Idol contestant Ben Glaze, who said he had never been kissed.

Perry beckoned the teen over to her for what Glaze assumed would be a peck on the cheek, but instead she kissed him straight on the lips.

Afterwards, he admitted the incident made him ‘uncomfortable immediately,’ telling
The New York Times he was raised in a conservative family and wanted to save his first kiss for a relationship.

Dark Horse lyrics branded ‘disgusting’

In light of the recent allegations, criticisms of Perry’s Dark Horse lyrics have resurfaced, years after the song was first released in 2013.

Dark Horse is said to have been inspired by the singer’s love of the 1996 fantasy horror movie The Craft, but it wasn’t until Netflix released the series
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, that many people understood the true meaning of some of the lyrics.

One line in the song, which is sung by Juicy J, says: “She eats your heart out like Jeffrey Dahmer.”

With many people learning about the gravity of Dahmer’s crimes, which included cannibalizing his victims, in the Netflix series, people have started viewing the song under a new lens.

“It still upsets me when I hear the line in the song Dark Horse: ‘She eats your heart out like Jeffrey Dahmer’, I always make my daughter turn the station,” one person wrote on X.

“It’s so disrespectful to the victims’ families. I hope people remember them while watching Netflix. Sorry for their losses.”

Another added: “Knowing the depths of what Jeffrey Dahmer did… Juicy J [is] wrong for what he said in that Katy Perry song.”

Neither Perry or Juicy J have ever acknowledged the criticisms of the lyric.
