Police Issue Major Update On Katy Perry Investigation After Ruby Rose’s Shocking Allegations
Police have issued a major update on Katy Perry following Ruby Rose’s bombshell allegations.
Katy Perry is one of the best-selling musicians of all time. With hits spanning two decades, a global fanbase in the hundreds of millions, and a profile that has extended far beyond music into television, fashion, and advocacy, she has been one of the most visible women in entertainment for the better part of twenty years.
Now, her name is at the centre of something far more serious than any chart position — a criminal investigation by Australian police following sexual assault allegations made by actress Ruby Rose.
Two very different women
To understand the full context of what has emerged, it helps to know who these two women are and what, if anything, connects them.
Katy Perry, born Katheryn Hudson in Santa Barbara, California, in 1984, rose to global fame in 2008 with I Kissed A Girl and went on to become one of the most commercially successful pop artists in history.

More recently, she has been in the public eye following her split from actor Orlando Bloom — with whom she shares a daughter, Daisy — and her subsequent relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Ruby Rose is an Australian actress and model, born in Melbourne in 1986, who first rose to international prominence through the Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, in which she played inmate Stella Carlin from 2015.
She went on to appear in a string of Hollywood productions, including the Pitch Perfect franchise and The Batman. She has also been vocal about a range of personal experiences, including significant health struggles.
In 2023, she spoke about emergency spinal surgery that left her temporarily paralyzed, and she has over the years been at the centre of various public controversies, including widely reported disputes with production crews and fellow cast members on several projects.
The two women are not close. A source told The Sun that they have ‘a complicated backstory’ and have ‘never really been friends.’
This is not the first time the two women have traded public words. Rose described Perry’s 2017 track Swish Swish as ‘purposeful poop’ — a comment she walked back days later, writing on X that ‘being mean doesn’t suit me and leaves me feeling dirty.’
How the allegations emerged
The chain of events that led to a police investigation began not with a formal complaint or a press statement, but with a comment section.
On Sunday, Complex Music posted content related to Justin Bieber’s controversial headline set at Coachella 2026, a performance that attracted widespread criticism for what many viewed as a lack of effort — Bieber had streamed his own YouTube videos during the show and sung along to them.
Katy Perry, who was at the festival, commented on the post: “Thank God he has Premium. I don’t wanna see no ads.”
Ruby Rose responded directly beneath Perry’s comment. Her reply was brief and explosive: “Katy Perry assaulted me at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s**t what she thinks?”
What followed was a rapid escalation. Rose expanded on her allegations in a series of posts on Threads, providing graphic details of what she alleged had occurred at the Melbourne venue in 2010, when she was in her early twenties.
She described staying silent for nearly two decades, partly because she claimed Perry had later assisted her in obtaining a US visa by writing letters of recommendation for her application.
“So I kept it a secret,” she wrote. “But I did tell ya’ll she wasn’t a good person. Instead, I got attacked by everyone.”
Rose was direct about the toll the alleged incident had taken. “I’m now 40. It has taken almost two decades to say this publicly,” she wrote. “Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and s**ual assault takes.”
Katy Perry’s response
Perry’s representatives responded quickly and forcefully. In a statement issued through her spokesperson, the allegations were rejected in the strongest possible terms.
“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies,” the statement read, per Complex.
“Ms Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
A source close to Perry also told The Sun that the allegations had come “as a massive shock to everyone.” Perry has not spoken about the matter personally.
The police investigation
On Monday April 13, Rose filed a formal complaint with Australian authorities. By Wednesday, Victoria Police had confirmed that an investigation was underway.
“Melbourne S**ual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating a historical s**ual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010,” a Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed, per MailOnline.
“Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD. As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
SOCIT is a specialist unit within Victoria Police dedicated specifically to investigating s**ual offences and child abuse. Its involvement signals that authorities are treating the complaint seriously.
Rose, for her part, has now gone quiet on the matter — not by choice, but on the advice of the investigating authorities.
In a post on Threads following the confirmation of the police investigation, she wrote: “Last update on this: As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved.
“It’s going to look like I am ignoring everything from supportive messages, to other people’s experiences, but I’m not. This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief. I can start the healing process now. And temporary move forward. I love you all so much.”
The investigation is at its earliest stages. No charges have been filed. Katy Perry has denied the allegations through her representatives. The alleged incident took place sixteen years ago. What Victoria Police’s SOCIT unit finds — and what, if anything, follows from it — remains to be seen.
