Sources close to the former couple claim tensions escalated following the death of Kidman’s mother in late 2024, with the pair gradually spending more time apart.
Urban was reportedly spending much of his time on tour, while Kidman remained in London for ongoing filming projects.
Their final public outing together, at a FIFA Club World Cup match in June 2025, raised eyebrows, with body language experts pointing to apparent tension and a noticeable lack of affection between the pair, Hello reports.
The intervention that changed everything
Urban has never shied away from discussing his past battles with addiction.
Only months after their wedding, Kidman organized an intervention that led the country music star to enter a rehabilitation program for three months.
Urban later revealed he was not participating in any recovery program before the intervention and credited Kidman’s determination and support with helping him rebuild both his personal life and professional career.
“I was like, ‘Put the cuffs on, let’s go,’” Urban told Oprah Winfrey in 2010, per the Standard, recalling the intervention. “It was the moment that turned my life around.”
That pivotal moment would ultimately prove important not only for his health and family life, but also for an unexpected financial reason.
Why his sobriety could now be worth millions
According to reports, the couple’s prenuptial agreement included an unusual clause intended to protect Kidman while encouraging Urban to maintain his sobriety.
Known as the c***ine clause, the provision reportedly entitled Urban to receive a significant payment, estimated to be between $600,000 and $900,000 for each year of marriage, provided he remained free from drugs and alcohol.
After 19 years of marriage and no publicly reported relapses since entering rehab in 2006, Urban could potentially receive as much as $17 million under the terms of the clause alone.
In a striking twist, a contractual safeguard originally designed to address concerns surrounding Urban’s history of addiction may now become one of the most lucrative aspects of the divorce settlement.
Court documents indicate Kidman will serve as the primary residential parent for the couple’s daughters, while both parents will retain joint custody.
Neither party is expected to pursue spousal or child support, largely due to their considerable individual wealth.
Even so, renewed attention on the c***ine highlights how Urban’s long-term commitment to sobriety, supported by Kidman’s early intervention, could ultimately result in one of the most surprising multimillion-dollar payouts of his career.
