A family relative, who spoke with the Daily Mail, has disclosed that the gravity of the situation became strikingly apparent to them.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the relative shares: “Over the past few days, there was great uncertainty about the outcome, and her family was bracing themselves for the worst.
“This is why the news was kept under wraps since Saturday.
“Everyone believed we might lose her, and unfortunately, that was the stark reality we faced.”
Throughout Madonna’s stay in the intensive care unit, her eldest child Lourdes, 26, remained by her side.
It remains unclear whether her other children – Rocco, 22, David, 17, Mercy, 17, and 10-year-old twins Stella and Estere – have visited their mother during her hospitalisation.
According to a source close to the family, Madonna’s hospitalisation has served as a wake-up call for the pop superstar and has brought her family closer together.
The source reveals: “This incident has truly jolted her. Madonna hasn’t been leading as healthy a lifestyle as she should for her age, and she’s been pushing herself beyond her limits in recent months.
“She still sees herself as young and invincible when, in reality, she’s not.”
Madonna’s boyfriend, Josh Popper, has posted a series of boxing photos on his Instagram account, alongside a cryptic caption that appears to reflect upon the recent health scare.
The caption reads: “‘Give yourself permission to live a big life. Step into who you were meant to be. Stop playing small. You are meant for greater things’.”
