Madonna was filmed calling out a concertgoer for sitting down – before awkwardly realising the fan was in a wheelchair.

The ‘Queen of Pop’, 65, is one of the best-selling artists of all time and is known for hit tracks such as ‘Vogue’, ‘Material Girl’ and ‘Like a Prayer’.

The ‘La Isla Bonita’ singer is currently travelling for her twelfth concert, The Celebration Tour, which began last year.

Fans were left devastated when it was announced the tour had been postponed due to Madonna’s ill health last summer.

The ‘4 Minutes’ singer was said to have suffered a ‘serious bacterial infection’ while she was in the final stages of rehearsal for her extensive world tour, as per the BBC.

Bacterial infections occur when bacteria enters your body, where they can increase in number. This can cause an immune reaction in your body, as explained by Healthdirect.

Tons of celebrities took to social media at the time, sending Madonna well wishes in her recovery.

Michelle Visage, from RuPaul’s Drag Race, said: “Take good care of our queen.”

While producer, actress and singer Rita Wilson wrote: “Sending Madonna my prayers for a speedy recovery.”

Madonna would then shed further light on how dire her condition was, informing fans she was ‘lucky to be alive’.

She penned on Instagram: “Love from family and friends is the best medicine. One month out of the hospital and I can reflect.

“As a mother you can really get caught up In the needs of your children and the seemingly endless giving… But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me. I saw a side to them I had never seen before. It made all the difference.

“So did the love and support from my friends. If you zoom into this picture I am holding you will see a poloroid taken by Andy Warhol of Keith Haring wearing a jacket with Michael Jackson’s face painted on it. A perfect triangle of brilliance. Artist who touched so many lives including my own.”

She continued: “I sobbed when I opened this gift because I realised how lucky I am to be alive. And how fortunate I am to have known these people and so many others who are also gone. Thank you @guyoseary for this gift! And thank you to all my angels who protected me and let me stay to finish doing my work!”

And earlier this year, Madonna also spoke out about her health scare while on her tour.

“It was a strange thing to finally not feel like I was in control,” she recalled.

According to a video showing her comments, the ‘Frozen On Fire’ singer continued (via CNN): “I have fallen off a lot of horses and broken a lot of bones. I have a titanium hip. I mean, the list goes on and on, but nothing can stop me.”

She then described her medical scare as a ‘near-death experience’, adding: “I’m not kidding. It was pretty scary. Obviously, I didn’t know for four days, because I was in an induced coma. But when I woke up, the first word I said was ‘No’. Anyway, that’s what my assistant tells me

“I’m pretty sure that God was saying to me, ‘Do you wanna come with us? You wanna come with me? You wanna go this way?’. And I said, ‘No. No. No!'”

While fans were left touched by Madonna’s candidness, she is now facing a backlash after a video has gone viral.

Madonna is now being called out on X (formerly known as Twitter) for her words, with many questioning why it mattered whether someone was sitting down.

One person tweets: “Does it matter if they’re sitting or standing? They paid for the ticket and took the time to be there. Isn’t that enough?”

Someone else agrees, writing: “My sentiment exactly! If I pay my good money to see, I can sit, lay down, stand if I want to.”

However, others have taken to the platform and defended the singer, with one commenting: “I’m seriously wondering how people, after so many decades, still don’t get Madonna’s dry humour. If you watch videos of this segment from other dates, you will realise she is just very chatty and down to earth.”

Another adds: “She’s just hyping the crowd up, so dramatic.”

Footage of the pop star scolding an audience member is circulating online – it is not clear when the incident took place.

It shows Madonna speaking into her microphone and telling fans: “Take this ride with me!”

The ‘Papa Don’t Preach’ singer then directs her words to one audience member in particular, saying: “What are you doing sitting down over there? What are you doing sitting down?”

While the audience cheers the star on, Madonna walks over to the person and realises her mistake, to which she quickly apologises: “Oh, OK. Politically incorrect, sorry about that. I’m glad you’re here. Oh my god.”
