Doug Kyed, an NFL reporter, has shared the news of the tragic death of his two-year-old daughter, Hallie.

Doug Kyed works as a New England Patriots reporter for the Boston Herald.

He shared a daughter Hallie, aged two, with his wife, Jen. Hallie James Kyed was born on March 28, 2021.

But tragically, her short life was marred by the illness that took her life this week.

Hallie suffered from acute myeloid leukaemia, which starts in the bone marrow and moves quickly into the blood, according to the American Cancer Society.

The cancer can also spread to the lymph nodes, the liver, the spleen and central nervous system.

Doug Kyed told the Boston Herald that following her diagnosis in April 2023, the family had been spending a lot of time in the Boston Children’s Hospital.

“My wife and I have switched off between caring for Hallie and our five-year-old, Olivia, at home,” he explained.

Following Hallie’s diagnosis, a GoFundMe was set up by a friend of the family to help cover her medical expenses.

It reads: “She loves princesses (LOVES them), Grogu, and her big sister Olivia. She is sweet and inquisitive, and recently was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Her diagnosis came quickly, less than a week after she first showed serious signs of illness.”

The GoFundMe continues: “According to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, only about 500 children are found to have AML in the U.S. each year. (It is much more common in adults.) However, it is the most common second cancer among children treated for other cancers.”

And heartbreakingly, Kyed has now announced that Hallie passed away on Sunday, January 21.

“Hallie died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning as Jen and I held her hands in bed,” he writes on Instagram.

“We’re completely lost and heartbroken without Hallie. Our lives will never be the same. Hallie was a special kid, and she made a positive impact on so many people she met. We were lucky to be her parents, and Olivia was fortunate to have the best baby sister.”

Kyed confirms that the family knew the ‘prognosis was poor’ after Hallie relapsed following a bone marrow transplant, explaining that chemotherapy after her transplant was ineffective, and the aggressive form of leukaemia had ‘grown out of control’.

He praised his ‘brave, strong and resilient’ daughter.

Kyed concludes: “The world is a worse place without Hallie in it.”

Hallie’s mother, Jen Crosby-Kyed, added her own tribute to her daughter, writing: “I will never understand why or how something so horrible can happen. There is a giant hole in my heart and the pain is excruciating, but she was such a special little person, and I’m so grateful I had her in my life and got to love her and be her mom.”

Kyed has also shared details about Hallie’s memorial service, writing: “Wear whatever you’d like. Hallie loved pink and sparkles and wouldn’t care about black.”

You can donate to Hallie’s GoFundMe here.

Rest in peace.
