Pulp Fiction Star Peter Greene’s Cause Of Death Revealed In Tragic Twist
Authorities have confirmed the cause of death for Peter Greene.
News broke in December 2025 that the actor, best known for Pulp Fiction, had been found dead inside his New York City apartment.
It sent shockwaves through Hollywood, as for many fans, Greene wasn’t just a familiar face; he was one of the defining character actors of the 1990s.
Tributes pour in
Best known for his chilling turn as Zed in Pulp Fiction and his slick, ruthless portrayal of Dorian Tyrell in The Mask, Greene built a career out of playing villains audiences loved to hate.
Yet those closest to him say the real man was nothing like the characters he portrayed.
“Truly one of the great actors of our generation,” his longtime manager Gregg Edwards said following his passing, per Page Six. “His heart was as big as there was. I’m going to miss him. He was a great friend.”

Edwards, who had known Greene for more than a decade, emphasized that the actor’s on-screen intensity masked a deeply generous personality.
“Nobody played a bad guy better than Peter,” he said. “But he also had a gentle side that most people never saw, and a heart as big as gold.”
Fans quickly took to social media to share their own tributes. Many recalled being captivated by Greene’s ability to make antagonists feel frighteningly real.
Others praised his range, noting that beneath the menace was always something human and vulnerable.
A career forged in grit
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, in 1965, Greene’s path to Hollywood was anything but straightforward.
He ran away from home at 15 and endured years of hardship before discovering acting in his mid-20s.
He later spoke candidly about struggles with addiction and homelessness during his youth, per the Daily Beast, experiences that shaped both his perspective and his craft.
His early screen work included a role on the NBC crime drama Hardball, but it was 1994 that changed everything. That year, Greene appeared in two films that would become cultural landmarks.
In Pulp Fiction, directed by Quentin Tarantino, Greene’s portrayal of Zed was brief but unforgettable, contributing to one of the film’s most disturbing and talked-about sequences.
That same year, he starred opposite Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz in The Mask, playing the ambitious and corrupt mobster Dorian Tyrell.

Greene’s career continued to flourish with roles in The Usual Suspects, Blue Streak and Training Day.
In the independent drama Clean, Shaven, he delivered a haunting performance as a man battling schizophrenia, a role that drew critical acclaim for its emotional depth and realism.
By the time of his death, Greene had accumulated nearly 95 acting credits, earning a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most reliable and compelling character actors.
Unsettling discovery made
On December 12, 2025, authorities responded to a welfare check at Greene’s Lower East Side apartment after neighbors reported music playing continuously for more than 24 hours.
When officers entered the residence, they found the actor unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene, per People.
Initial reports indicated there were no signs of foul play. However, unsettling details began to emerge. A neighbor later claimed Greene had been found face down on the floor with visible injuries and blood nearby.
Complicating matters further was a handwritten note reportedly discovered at the scene.
The note read, ‘I’m still a Westie,’ a reference to an Irish-American gang that once operated out of Hell’s Kitchen in the 1970s, per The Sun. The cryptic message fueled speculation about what may have happened in the apartment.

At the same time, Greene’s manager revealed that the actor had been scheduled to undergo surgery that very day to remove a benign tumor near his lung. In their final phone call, Greene had sounded upbeat and completely normal.
“We were friends for over a decade,” Edwards said. “There was nothing unusual about our last conversation.”
Greene had also been preparing to begin filming an independent thriller titled Mascots alongside Mickey Rourke.
He was actively working and reportedly excited about upcoming projects, making his sudden death all the more shocking.
Weeks of questions
As weeks passed, theories circulated. Some speculated about medical complications. Others focused on the mysterious note. Greene’s past struggles with addiction were revisited in online discussions, though no evidence suggested a relapse.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continued its investigation, withholding an official determination as fans and colleagues waited for clarity.
For two months, the circumstances surrounding Greene’s death remained unresolved.
Tragic cause of death
In February 2026, the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced its findings, per 7News.
Greene died from a gunshot wound to the left axilla, the armpit, which caused injury to the brachial artery. The manner of death was ruled an accident.
Authorities confirmed that Greene had accidentally shot himself. The bullet struck a critical artery responsible for supplying blood to the arm, elbow, forearm and hand, and the injury proved fatal. No foul play was suspected.
